Am sunburnt despite never leaving home without sunscreen! I’ve learnt the hard way never to underestimate the weather here, no matter how cloudy it looks you can still get sunburn!
Had a day out with the office today. We had a Christmas party at the Clovelly Bowling Club. Lawn bowls, that is! Turns out it is actually a pretty fun game which was pretty easy to grasp (take ball, throw), despite all the walking I had to do today with my busted ankle! And as it’s a bowling club, we used up every single shot glass they had when someone decided we needed a round of tequila shots. They even had to search for a bottle in the store. Good times!
Met a very interesting cabbie on the way to my drum class. We had a pretty interesting debate about societal norms and values (in regards to child upbringing) in Australia vs Malaysia vs UAE where he is from. It got so interesting that I was five minutes late for class because we were still going on and on after reaching my destination. He gave me a lot to think about, having known information presented to me in a very different light. Are there really so many things we take for granted?
Most cabbies here are pretty chatty. When I take a reasonably long ride, I always like to ask about the most interesting thing they’ve witnessed on the job. That’s why I like reading Man of Lettuce! And I’ve been rewarded with so many stories! One of them told me about a girl pulling down her panties to pee in the back seat after a day of heavy drinking at the Randwick race courses. Apparently he cannot do anything (she was beyond listening) to stop her as that might land him a sexual harassment lawsuit. Another interesting one was about some drunk guy asking if the cabbie had space for a case of beer and a pizza – upon getting affirmation, he proceeded to throw up in the open window and ran off.. I guess it’s not easy being a cabbie, especially on weekends when there are a lot more drunk fares..
