I’m a skincare junkie. There I said it. Ever since I moved back to KL after a 18-month stint in New Zealand, my skin has been breaking out like crazy. After trialing a ton of pharmacy medication and over the counter treatments that didn’t work I finally went to see a dermatologist. He told me it was because of environmental and lifestyle changes. A course of Roaccutane took care of the acne, but long term maintenance required a lot of discipline. My lifestyle in KL consists of irregular eating, late nights, smoking and not much sleep.. which didn’t really help.
After moving to Sydney, my skin improved considerably but the long term damage was apparent. I guess age also comes into play :) Winters were particularly harsh on my skin and last Winter I invested in a serum (from Prescriptives) to wear under my moisturiser and it helped.
BTW, this isn’t a paid review.
This year I chanced upon one of PerriconeMD’s products that trumps everything I’ve ever tried. The name behind PerriconeMD, Dr Perricone, isn’t a stranger. He’s a dermatologist to the stars and author of three New York Times #1 Bestsellers. At one point or another we’ve heard of his amazing ‘cosmeceuticals’ but they don’t exactly come cheap. I’ve always wondered about the effectiveness of these products but never got a chance to try them until this Summer when I was looking for a foundation that was versatile enough to keep wearing regardless of how tan I am. I came across his No Foundation Foundation that came in one universal shade and tried it on. It looked and felt amazing! So I bought a bottle from Mecca and it cost $98 – pricey but it’s better than the MAC ones I normally use. Two months later, I came across his online store and realised that it was way cheaper buying direct, even with the standard US$20 international shipping charge and you get free international shipping on orders above US$250.
It was then I came across his award-winning ‘miracle’ product called Cold Plasma. It is a patented breakthrough product that promises to ‘correct the ten most visible signs of aging: wrinkles, enlarged pores, dryness, redness, discoloration, uneven skin tone, impurities, loss of firmness, loss of smoothness, and loss of radiance.’ At US$150 a pop (A$295 at Mecca) I was really hesitant to try it out even after all the rave reviews I read about it but they have a 0.25oz deluxe sample that cost only US$10 for first time customers, so I decided to try it out. After all US$10 is not much to spend on trialing something that promises miracles! And I am so glad I did.
After just four weeks, my skin has improved to a point where I can go out without foundation and just a hint of blush and not feel ‘naked’. I barely believe it, my skin tone has evened out, my freckles have started to fade and more importantly, my pores are so much less visible. I’ve been worrying a lot about them because as we get older it can only get worse without proper care and most products I’ve come across only addresses enlarged pores on a cosmetic level with not much long term benefits. Seriously, I cannot be any happier with it! I’ve tried so many different products in the past six years, even Kiehl’s Abyssine cream which I thought was pretty good has nothing on this. I haven’t been this excited about a skincare product in years. I think it will be the best investment I will make this year, and on top of that I’ve even decided to stop smoking.
It just works. So well. I can go on and on about it.
If you’ve gotten this far, you’ll be as stoked as me to know that the site also has other first-time buyer specials, for people like me who have never tried a PerriconeMD product at home. I also picked up a starter kit which I am putting to good use. I like that their products are eco-friendly and free of parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, fragrance and fillers.
The links are referral links, if you do decide to pick something up I’ll get a little credit toward my next purchase. I’ve even decided to put their ads on my blog. Check out their sample specials page for some great deals on trial-sized products.
You can thank me later :)

The most common place you can get acne is your face, but you can get acne all over your body. I think most people think of acne as a face thing. A lot can be done by cleaning your face well of dirt and oils.
