Red

I’ve been going a little crazy trying to decide on the perfect shade of red for my living room walls. I wish I had a little more time before my parents come for a visit – this weekend I’m going to (hopefully) see a red finish at Albert Park and the next weekend which is the Easter weekend, we’re going for a drive. So that leaves me virtually no time to get anything done before they get here which suits mom just fine – she loves painting walls (and so do I) so perhaps it will be a mother-daughter wall painting session? My mom insists on bringing her paintbrushes, I’m hoping there is enough for two!

#1 – If I didn’t have a pet I would love white sofas

So after looking at a ton of paint swatches on the weekend I’ve narrowed it down to three shades. I think I’ll let mom pick the final shade. I am leaning towards darker red shades, a lot like the old feature wall in my KL home. There is also the question of Feng Shui (of which I’ve never been an advocate but like all other energy-based belief systems it never hurts to find out more) and so I looked it up and it tells me that I will benefit from having red walls in certain cardinal points of the living area. It also tells me red in the bedroom should be used sparingly. Interestingly, Western concepts dictates that a ‘good’ wall to pick for a feature wall is the one that receives most light which is logical and at the same time corresponds to the Eastern concept of energy and light. The more I read the more complicated it gets so I’ve decided to stick to the original plan and not worry too much about my ‘chi’ since my original plan some what conforms to all these ideas anyway.

#2 – This is what I want my apartment to look like (wish I had a working fireplace)

#3 – This is probably what it will end up looking like (my place is quite hard and angular)

#4 – Oh the fridge! :)

#5 – Have toyed with the idea of wallpapering many times. But painting is way more budget friendly.

#6 – Red stimulates appetite! (lol)

Apparently having dominant colours in living areas also dictate ones personality. Google tells me that people who like red tend to be tigers in the sack. Bwahahahaha. I can think of so many Tiger/sack puns but I’ll leave you with this:

New art

I’ve been a little shopping demon and bought not one but three art prints online. Actually there are two more I’m thinking of buying but maybe a bit later when I’m a little more cashed up!

Here are two of them:

Can’t wait till they arrive! These are by artist/illustrator Yellena James.

The third one is a larger one by one of my fav artists, LA-based Hannah Stouffer. Check her stuff out, it’s amazing!

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and I’ve been getting so many emails from various businesses pimping their top picks for the occasion. I can’t speak for everyone but I’m so sick of seeing all these fluffy, frilly pink things – surely this Paris Hilton demographic has been slowly shrinking over the past few years or have I just been living under a rock? Here’s what I would put together if I were to spam your inbox!

In a bid to put an end to lacy, soppy, rose-smelling pink cards, here are some very cool Bloom pop-up greeting cards by Artechnica, A$150 for a pack of 15.

Everyone should have an instant camera. Fuji Instamax Instant Camera, US$130.

Adding this to the list because Leicas are cool, it looks fab in orange and only 200 people in the world will have one. Leica M7 Hermes Edition, price unavailable.

Why are vintage bags so cool? The chances you will bump into someone else with the same bag are halved every year, thus you’ll probably be the only one in your city with this vintage Chanel tassel bag, US$1,865.

Alternatively a huge carryall like this weekender hobo from Marc by Marc Jacobs, US$228, will do the trick. Especially if it comes packed and ready for a surprise weekend trip.

Taking a tip from Seth Green’s infamous line in The Italian Job; though these M-sized Geneva Sound System babies, A$1,999, won’t blow womens clothes off but they look mighty cool in any living room. And if you’re wanting to put that theory to test, it comes in L and XL too.

Quality sound that looks funky.. portable cool! Totally digging these Skullcandy Ti Tokidoki Headphones, A$120.

There are regular steak knives, and there are Legnoart spicy steak knives by Carlo Contin. Unconventional as a V-Day gift, to say the very least. Price unavailable.

1000 Dessous: A history of Lingerie will look fab on any coffee table. From US$60.

Sexy! MAC Lipmix in Red, A$21.

I can has funny? These LOLMagnetz, US$20, are hilarious and a great bang for your buck. Check out the user submitted pictures on Thinkgeek!

For photography buffs, these Re:Vision Camera lense cuffs recycled in South Australia by Craig Arnold also come in sterling silver modeled on the real thing. Each recycled cuff is one-of-a-kind. A$140-250

Thinking of You flat-packed metal cut sheet vase covers from Artechnica hides that cheap vase so your blooms will always look cool. Guaranteed to last longer than the flowers you’ll be paying a bomb for on V-Day. A$55-$65.

Keep your other half up all night with this sexy Nespresso Delonghi Lattissima, $A699.

Riding crops from Lucrezia and De Sade, ahem. From A$25.

Palate Palette

Fun shoot! Am tired. PP is a great place to take pictures. Had a crazy time trying to inflate bunny balloons (which popped) and phallic elephant balloons (which, unfortunately, didn’t) while negotiating rain in dress best left for sunny days.

White walls. Random furniture. And oh, the chairs. Structural, colourful mess!

img_8578.jpg

Choen and his Hasselblad. I like peacocks when they’re not real birds.

img_8603.jpg

Kat and I messing with the props. I don’t really know what they are but they are crazy.

We shot a ridiculously expensive Juicy dress ($21k!?) that didn’t come with wheels. And another so broad the model couldn’t fit in the door.

Taisu in one of the crazy Venetian masks Kat collects. Love love love. Reminded me of one of the old Pure White parties we had before.

Came home with some balloons. Inhaled the helium to see if I sounded like Mickey. I did. I’ve always wanted to do that.

Next stop Singapore. Still haven’t packed and stuff.

Trigger happy

Did a shoot with Joe last weekend.. interesting results! I like. The direction: urban, gritty, raw. I think we managed to capture that :)
