fashion friday five

Friday Five Feb 17

Just a couple of things that caught my eye this week: A metal bangle with a matte finish that I found in the men’s section of ASOS, an impossibly high pair of patent pumps with a receding toe from Jessica Simpson (she gets shoes really right at times), a geometric silk top from Hugo and rather subtle leaf-print pants from DVF considering the explosion of botanical prints we’ve been seeing in SS12.

And finally, a stunning canvas bag from Theysken’s Theory with neon patent trim that is both beautiful and functional at the same time. I need this in my life – any of you feel the same?

Friday Five: Stacking Rings

I am usually a fan of chunky rings, silver in particular being my favourite low-maintenance metal of choice. My T&Co. cushion ring hardly ever leaves my hand but these days I’m wearing a lot more gold and rose gold than I used to and I love the combination of the different metals together. Having a few massive chunky rings on one finger don’t really work so I did a little window shopping and voila.. stacking rings in mixed metal combinations!

I love the simplicity of the Jennifer Zeuner ones, and there are plenty of alternatives on Etsy too. Dannijo does great stacking sets, and so does Iosselliani (not pictured) and for a quick fix the high street brands such as Miss Selfridge and ASOS are always great! I wish we had H&M here, there are so many lovely jewellery pieces I’ve seen lately that I’m crushing on…

Have a lovely weekend! x

Friday Five: Utilitarian Chic

If there’s one fashion trend I always go back to it would have to be military-inspired utilitarian wear. You can’t really go wrong with a perfectly executed camouflage print, sharp tailoring, long trenches, high collars – all the little details that make the look so much fun to wear. And some times, it’s all about the combination of olives/khakis and sand that just hint at how the uniform has been glamourised and adapted for urban environments. It always seems to hit a spot. When I saw this bucket bag by Allibelle I knew it would be the start of a new obsession.. unfortunately it’s currently only available for pre-order.

This shirt by Sandro is heavy enough to double as a light jacket, and how amazing is the green on the Alexander Wang sandals? I found it on sale though not in my size..

Friday Five: Monochrome Basics

This week’s Friday Five is all about beautiful basics and lack of colour. It must be the influence of the wet and chilly Summer weather, or just the explosion of colours and prints I’ve been seeing lately, but all I want to do is hide under chunky knits and cardigans in simple shapes and shades of black and white. I also found a super cute pair of white wedges and a sleek boxy satchel to go with it, so all you need is a pair of black skinny jeans. Either way, Fall is just around the corner so I may as well start stocking up on these basic pieces.. they all look like great investment pieces that have some staying power. Thanks for all your wishes and have a lovely weekend!

Friday Five: Little Black Dresses

Over the years trends have come and gone but a LBD is one of those things that have remained a wardrobe essential – every girl needs a tried-and-tested, fail-proof little black dress in their closet. In fact, I think that we need at least two – one for dressier occasions (which I generally define by sharper/more structured cuts and more luxe fabrics and details) and one for casual everyday (which would be lower-maintenance fabrics like jersey or cotton and more relaxed shapes). On some occasions you might stumble across a hybrid of the two that can easily take you from day to night – with a quick swap of shoes and accessories and pulling your hair into a messy, sexy updo.

Apart from being easily dressed up or down, these dresses also have the all-important hemline detail that means you can get away with throwing a cute knit on top during the day and then taking that off to reveal the details underneath.

What’s your go-to LBD? I really love anything by Helmut Lang. His dresses are modern and edgy and dramatic without being too out there!

Ruffles: Miu Miu ruffled jersey dress (alternative)
Lace: Karen Millen Polka dot dress (alternative)
Sequin: Rare cape dress with sequin shoulders (alternative)
Leather: Preen Simone leather dress (alternative)
Asymmetrical: Helmut Lang Black asymmetric dress with leather cap sleeves (alternative)
