fashion friday five

Friday Five Nov 25
Just some picks of festive bling I’m crushing on right now. Well, it doesn’t completely scream festive but it’s during this time of the year that I think more about jewellery than any other time plus there always seem to be more excuses to dress up a little more, right? I love love love Marni accessories for always being so different. This brass and resin necklace is a total statement piece, and in this season’s colour of the moment and so beautifully photographed too. What a stunner! Etsy fave Five and Two does some amazing pieces with natural crystal so every piece is slightly different and in a myriad of rainbow colours. I am completely enamoured with this ring as with the handcuff bracelets with the spikes.. can you imagine? It will toughen up any outfit in an instant! The ASOS page has it worn on both wrists, which would be a little restrictive and a little suggestive (!).. Mmm.. spikes.. how would you wear it?

Friday Five 18 Nov

Injecting a little dose of sunshine into your day – here are some cute orange items I’ve found this week; the perfect fluoro orange satchel from none other than The Cambridge Satchel Company. I remember browsing their site a while ago and they have a service where you can get your initials embossed on your bag, how cool? These suede orange platforms are a perfect colour accent to an all black outfit, and the Jagger Edge iPhone cover comes in a range of different colours (again with the studs!). Jeweller Alyssa Norton did an exclusive range for ASOS and this is one of the pieces — it’s actually a mens bracelet but I love the raw suede detail and and it looks great oversized!

Friday Five 11 Nov

Add a piece of metallic clothing or accessory to an outfit and it instantly amps it up. It’s like a no-brainer, especially when you’re getting dressed in a hurry.. as I do every morning! This ASOS t-shirt goes perfectly with a pair of bright solid skinny jeans (burgundy, cobalt, emerald, orange) and toned down a touch with a light bleached pair and will take you from day to night. I like that it’s so neutral. The NW3 cardi looks amazing on black and paired with this clutch by Laura Merkin that has a distressed metallic finish – I’m quite a tactile person and probably won’t be able to keep my hands off the haircalf leather! These shoes by Zara have a mirror-finish and I’m so smitten by it.. I’m slowly starting to wear heels again and would love these in my closet.

As for the watch, I have a confession: I have been wearing the same watch for almost 10 years, it was a graduation present from my parents and it has a matte stainless steel strap. I love it because it’s minimal and I never have to take it off but I’ve been looking for a secondary watch in warmer tones, something a bit dressier and have been eyeing the Michael Kors range for a while.. it’s not expensive and looks really good! I’m just wondering if it’s water proof..

Friday Five: 4 Nov

It’s so strange that while it’s getting warmer in Sydney I’ve been leaning towards darker colours. And boots. Last week I put on order in for a pair of suede ankle boots.. hmm! This week I’ve picked out a few menswear-inspired pieces.. I love to mix it up and a good pair of brogues and a hat goes a long way…

These brogues are great high street version of the Jil Sander brogues with the fluoro soles I was obsessed with recently. Quite lovely in white. I also love the look of the mirror-finish silver ones in the Zara trousers picture..

Love the cut of this Topshop blazer to where it falls just below the hips! Zara also does great versions. And speaking of Zara these pants are perfectly on the line between casual and dressy.. quite like that it can go either way.

I really should raid W’s closet :)

Friday Five: Basics

Friday Five 28 Oct

If I could whittle down my wardrobe to a few basic pieces these would be it. Picking just five is hard, I’m going with a pair of jeans, a sweater, a basic black dress, a black top and a white shirt.

DL1961 Samantha jeans in Bluebell
Some time ago I tried on a pair of DL1961 jeans and was absolutely floored by the fit. I’ve been quietly obsessing ever since, but I own too many pairs of jeans to justify another pair. The secret to their amazing fit is their 4-way stretch fabric and quite possibly some fairy dust thrown in. This pair is in the most amazing colour ever.

Vince Boatneck cropped sweater in Henna
Really loving this sweater by Vince. Actually I love most of their sweaters but it would be ridiculous to stock up just before Summer. Digging the relaxed fit and the shorter rounded hem, it would make a great layering piece when it gets colder. Wish it came in black.

Pepe Jeans Roll up sleeve shirt
It was hard finding a white shirt online. I know what my ideal basic white shirt would be and this comes really close. It was important that it was 100% cotton and it would be perfect if the hem was rounded just a smidge.

AOK Black destroyed jersey pocket tee
I can’t live without my basic black tees and would like one in every incarnation imaginable. I’m completely fascinated by this one. It’s only shredded at the back and I really like the idea of this saggy, swingy, stretchable and transparent fabric. It moves really well in large sections. I wonder how it would work on me in real life.

T by Alexander Wang Black jersey dress
Mmm bodycon, long sleeve, ruched.. and the perfect motivation to shed some pounds.

What are some of your favourite wardrobe staples?
