What I’ve been wearing lately is probably a testament to the kind of Summer we’ve been having. I can’t believe I’m still in sweaters in the middle of December! I wonder how long this is going to go on for. Today I bonded with a girl outside the train station when we both stopped to change out of our shoes into thongs (that’s what we call rubber slippers/sandals here in Australia) because of the rain. For once I remembered to check the weather forecast! “You’re doing the same as me, this is crazy!” she said.. I just laughed.
Here’s a more detailed shot of this necklace I wore in the last post – I saw it earlier and fell in love with the geometric shapes and was quite happy when I saw it on sale. At first I thought I would like to shorten it a little but the length is growing on me. It’s something I would have designed myself if I got the chance to, and I’m surprised at how well it goes with.. everything.
Tomorrow is the last day of work and I can’t wait to have a break! Hope everyone’s Christmas/holiday preparations are going well :)

Sydney Morning Herald reported this week as being Sydney’s coldest start to Summer in 50 years! I’m glad I haven’t put all my Winter things away just yet. This is pretty much what I’ve been wearing this week. One of my heaviest cable knits, and boots, in December. Who would’ve thought!

It’s quite easy to DIY and add a few studs to your sweaters. Mine already has them on but on closer inspection they are just regular pyramid studs with 4 prongs at the back.. ooh the possibilities! I think it’s a cheap and easy DIY – I especially like them running down the side of the sleeves.

Weather in Sydney is proving to be as schizophrenic as ever. After the glorious 35c weekend we now have a succession of wet 20c days which is forecasted to last all week. My lunch hour has been reduced to eating at my desk, which is hardly ideal considering how much time I already spend sitting in front of a computer when I really want to be out in the sun catching up on my reading.. grr.
This what I like to call my sack dress and so far it has proven to be one of the most versatile things in my closet. The asymmetrical shape and the ruching detail that runs through the length lends itself quite well to being worn unbelted. It actually has a round neckline but due to the slightly awkward way that it falls, it looks like it is intentionally angled and when it is belted up the shape then looks quite Grecian especially with a pair of strappy leather sandals. Also, I once attempted to roll myself into a ball and double this dress up over myself to test out the super-stretchy quality of the jersey fabric.. and the dress won. Possibly the best $20 I’ve ever spent :) What are some of your most versatile clothing items? x

Studs and spikes used to be a mainstay of 80s punk, but these days so many niche trends have crossed over to the mainstream with designers like Balmain, Isabel Marant, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang and Chloe featuring plenty of hardware in their collections. If you look at the history of punk fashion (and music) it was an intentional rebellion against the mainstream with controversial and often offensive themes. These days, thankfully, punk fashion have branched off into many different subcultures and its influences have filtered down and been made more wearable for everyone else — here are some inspiration style pics I’ve come across recently!
I’m a huge fan of studs and spikes and I often find it cheaper (and more fun!) to DIY something I already own to get the look than to spend lots of money on a designer original.. not that there’s anything wrong with that :) But until I save enough money for that amazing red leather Balmain jacket, it’s DIY for me.. I’ve done a few and it’s really easy especially if you’re working with fabric. If you’re working with leather make sure you have a hole punch of some sort (depending on what you want to do).
This is something I did earlier this year and if you feel like studding something Studs & Spikes is the best web store I’ve found online – the quality of their stuff is amazing compared to the cheap ones you find on eBay. Rebecca Minkoff do some nice studded leather bags and bracelets, as do nOir Jewelry, that you see in some of these pictures and Wanderlust + Co has some nice studded leather pieces as well. I’ve also found some really nice studded accessories at vintage markets, the sex shops on Oxford St in Sydney and (of all places!) pet stores!
