Some pictures from my month. There are always a lot of things going on in January here – mostly a part of the Sydney Festival, but also plenty of other food, music, art and design events all around the city. I only wish we had more beach weather! The last image is my submission to the ACP gallery, it’s hanging up as part of the Term 4 Student Show until the 5th of Feb!
Pictures from lunch at District Dining with the crew. The food there is excellent – best I’ve had in Sydney a while. Service was impeccable and the desserts are tops. I love finding awesome new places to blog about!
Highly recommended: the crispy school prawns with lime mayonnaise, my personal fave – steak tartare, duck confit, the parmesan gnocchi, and the chocolate mousse was divineeee…
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend!

W made us some fresh butter yesterday and it was so good that I wonder why we haven’t been making it more. I’ve only ever made it once in my life with an electric whisk which was pretty easy but much messier than this method in the video below. It only takes a few minutes!
All you need is some cream, a clean dry jar with a lid and some sea salt to season. Make sure the cream is room temperature and at the end you need to get all the buttermilk out of the butter or the butter will quickly go rancid. This is a pretty easy process, since water and fat don’t mix. We ran some water through it to rinse the butter after draining the buttermilk then patted it dry with some kitchen towels. Then add some sea salt to season and spread on some freshly baked bread – absolute heaven!
For the first time, W and I went to Lakemba for the Haldon Street Fest that was on the weekend. It was like a little adventure for me especially, since I don’t often venture far from where I live and work. There was a huge emphasis on diversity with a lot of people, food and music from different cultures. [click to continue…]
