Friends

Sigh.

Friends like mine really make me miss this town.. soooo much!! Sydney is great but you guys are irreplaceable! Trip has been a whirlwind, and I wish I had time to do everything I want to do and see everyone I miss :(

It’s going to be hard leaving again so soon. And don’t even get me started on the fam..

Damn you, time. And technology for not giving us teleportation! Yet! Ok. Slash emo.

By the way it’s crazy hot in KL.. What’s up? Has it always been this hot or just me not being used to the humidity now. It’s weird being so hot and sweaty all the time! Silly me didn’t bring shorts back so had to buy some. Can’t even think of pulling on jeans just yet..

Also for some reason I packed my bikinis. I don’t travel without one. Why no time for Koh Samui whyyyyy!

Other random things I don’t leave home without: dental floss and sunscreen. And restaurant guides. Today I noticed the evolving food scene in KL. So many new mid to fine dining places popping up – fusion and Australian seem to be increasingly dominant and there is even a place called Ultimo in Solaris Mont Kiara! Menu looks good but the words ‘fine dining’ next to restaurant logo kills it a bit :P I have a list of new places to check out but again whyyyyy no time only got time to stuff face at old favourites..

But tonight I had Leffe on tap at Bodega with J & J and some Scrabble tiles and all is well in my world!

From KL with love

I’m blogging from my iPhone as this is probably my first time travelling without my MacBook. It’s a strange feeling and I feel like I’m typing a really long SMS, but am amazed at how much this little device has changed my life!

I’m in KL for the week. The trip back was long and tiring and already I’m missing my apartment. But it’s good to be home with the family; there’s nothing quite like home cooked food and watching tv with dad on Sunday morning while mom reads the papers.. Especially if it’s an F1 race day :)

Eleana’s wedding on Saturday night was fun. We’ve always thought Elaine would get hitched first! Was good seeing all the people I haven’t seen in a while especially the girls, and Joshua, Alice, David and WL. Can’t believe those old days we often talk about are from almost a decade ago. And man do I miss those really fun times hiking with Joshua. Hope he goes on another one of his walkabouts and drops by Sydney soon. I really can’t think of a better person to go out to the bush with!

More later, this tap typing business is tiring!

Kirribilli

Was a gorgeous day to be out today. We had some visitors from Melbourne come to sunny Sydney for the weekend..

The markets were on and a friend had a stall so we popped by – but it was too hot to do any serious shopping in the heat. I wish all weekends would be like this; endless blue skies, lazy walking, slightly salty air. Why am I such a Summer person?

Reclaiming 23

It didn’t seem all that long ago that we were all celebrating our twenty-firsts, and now a few of my closest friends are making their first forays into marriage and parenthood. It does seem a long stretch to have been that carefree once and now we have adult things to worry about. Like mortgages and husbands and futures. I am so proud of my friends! To be where they are today and to have embraced it so easily does inspire me to grow up a little more each day.

I had a chat with a very old friend on the weekend, someone who has known me since I was fifteen and once dated. He asked when my turn would be and why don’t I seem to want to settle. Don’t I want kids? A family? All I could say was maybe with the right man and the right frame of mind, I would but I can’t even commit to a phone plan right now, let alone have a kid. Some days I feel like I’m still a kid myself. Today I looked through my iPhoto database and seriously wondered where all those years went. They were awesome years!

Wow, I sound quite emo today. Must be all that emo spilling over from the first finals week episode of MasterChef :P

I was very inspired this morning when I woke up and the weather was gorgeous. I had a list of all the things I wanted to do before I turn 30, albeit made when I was 22 and quite unrealistic, and today I made that first move into achieving some of the impossibles. And it feels good! Although for one of them the window of opportunity is long gone – watching the Olympics live. Haha.

24 hours

Sangria

Tiff came by on Saturday to buy honey hang out before getting on her way to Suva. We spent the day with R & J at the grower’s markets, then took a ferry to Manly for the food and wine fest there and before concluding the day at Kika for some mandatory tapas and sangria. Have a new fav dish there recommended by one of the (seriously awesome) staff, which completely eclipses my previous obsession with their torti chori. Wish we had more time together – I miss you already!

Spent the rest of the long weekend with beer (at James Squire) bourbon (at Helm) and wine (sitting on a box of Grange at undisclosed office of a wine shop) and very bad coffee (Bill & Toni’s on Stanley St, not sure why Time Out rated them so well, both our coffees were burnt beyond belief) and I think some detox is in order. Am amazed that the weather held up, NSW lost the first Origins game and the fact the curtains in my apartment are actually white after I finally washed them a year after moving in.
