I can’t believe it’s been a year since the last Nuffnang Christmas Party, and it’s here again. Time seems to have flown by so quickly!
So this is my tenth year blogging (I feel so old, LOL, especially when people ask me “How long have you been blogging?”). In the first eight years I made it a point not to have any form of advertising on my blog, given that I’m not really writing for a particular audience, but if you’d told me sooner how fun blog networks like Nuffnang can be, I would have signed up way sooner!
I think our Bloggers are a lovely bunch of people and it was great to meet you/see you all again – Viv, Adeline, Mae, Lauren, Betty, Simon, Janice, Suze, Jayne, Karen, Sam, Joanna – I’m sure I’ve missed a few – and a big thanks to Leanne for helping organising such a great party!

Me and Mae have the same camera and was trying to take our own pictures – except I obviously lost the plot and looked at the wrong camera in both the pictures! LOL.
It does look like there are no male bloggers in Sydney from my pictures (oops) but there are a few as you can see.. it’s not a great picture, sorry. I think I was on my fifth beer by then.

There was also a theme (Blue, Hawaiian!) which I didn’t get to dress up for as I came straight from work. I was wearing a new pair of high-waisted jeans though, which were blue (barely), not since the early 90s have I had a pair of jeans that went up past my belly button! I’m actually kind of liking it. They are from Ksubi.
Here are some pictures from the Basement Jaxx gig in KL I went to earlier this month. Though I wasn’t the biggest Jaxx fan (unlike Muna!) it was nice that the music and the company were familiar – it was really nice seeing the people I used to go out with regularly in KL, and the old (and new) JUICE crew! I actually don’t remember the last time I was at a club event – I haven’t been clubbing at all in Sydney. Much prefer bars and lounges these days, probably a sign I’m getting older :)

So nice seeing these girls again. That’s the funny thing about working at Catcha, I miss the people more than the job.. not that there was anything wrong with the job! Long after leaving the place I still try my best to keep in touch with the people I used to see every day and it’s not much of a chore because they are such amazing people and I miss them dearly.
It was Ben's birthday too!
In other news, my landlord is going to sell my apartment and I am more than tempted to buy it. Can’t believe I used to balk at RM400k apartments in KL when I was working there – real estate in Sydney is so much more expensive! Just got back from a dinner with Jo, we’re going to view a few places this weekend and I’m a little bit excited. It’s probably time I had a mortgage like everyone else :P
Am sunburnt despite never leaving home without sunscreen! I’ve learnt the hard way never to underestimate the weather here, no matter how cloudy it looks you can still get sunburn!
Had a day out with the office today. We had a Christmas party at the Clovelly Bowling Club. Lawn bowls, that is! Turns out it is actually a pretty fun game which was pretty easy to grasp (take ball, throw), despite all the walking I had to do today with my busted ankle! And as it’s a bowling club, we used up every single shot glass they had when someone decided we needed a round of tequila shots. They even had to search for a bottle in the store. Good times!
Met a very interesting cabbie on the way to my drum class. We had a pretty interesting debate about societal norms and values (in regards to child upbringing) in Australia vs Malaysia vs UAE where he is from. It got so interesting that I was five minutes late for class because we were still going on and on after reaching my destination. He gave me a lot to think about, having known information presented to me in a very different light. Are there really so many things we take for granted?
Most cabbies here are pretty chatty. When I take a reasonably long ride, I always like to ask about the most interesting thing they’ve witnessed on the job. That’s why I like reading Man of Lettuce! And I’ve been rewarded with so many stories! One of them told me about a girl pulling down her panties to pee in the back seat after a day of heavy drinking at the Randwick race courses. Apparently he cannot do anything (she was beyond listening) to stop her as that might land him a sexual harassment lawsuit. Another interesting one was about some drunk guy asking if the cabbie had space for a case of beer and a pizza – upon getting affirmation, he proceeded to throw up in the open window and ran off.. I guess it’s not easy being a cabbie, especially on weekends when there are a lot more drunk fares..
What a crazy weekend. It first started off relatively quiet. Dinner party at mine, before heading off into the depths of the 2010 post code to grab a beer. Turned out to be a big night, it was Halloween and I made a (rather lame) effort of putting on a pair of cat ears and draw some whiskers on my face with – wait for it – feline eye kohl. Haha.
(BTW, best eye kohl ever, water resistant and pure black – no blue or green undertones. Smudges like a dream! Love love love. Except I kept forgetting not to touch my face!)

In 2010, it is never quiet past midnight on a weekend. Eventually we all went separate ways, I ended up walking right into a private party at a bar with MA. Turns out it was the owner’s birthday and we got some beers, found a boat to sit in and watched a bunch of hot sweaty shirtless men gyrate away in the middle of the joint. It was a GLTB party, not that I cared one way or the other; this is why I love Sydney. Some nights it can lead anywhere. So we ended up taking a ride on MA’s jeep after that, all around Sydney to look at the harbour. I always like looking at the harbour. Especially in the middle of the night when it is so still and quiet and the stars are out to play and the water is a shimmering pitch black; even the most polluted body of water can look beautiful at night. I just love listening to waves!
Oh, I have a new pair of Cons – me and Jo left the pub to get some cigarettes some time during the night and on the way back to his apartment we saw a huge blank white canvas next to some garbage bins. It was still in it’s wrapper, so we picked it up.. and I saw someone had thrown out these brand new Cons, not even a scuff on the sole – and it’s in my size. How random!
Spent the next day at the beach. Frozen coke, an ice cream cone and some great company – what else do you need on a Sunday wind down?
Had a pretty big weekend this week, two birthdays and one wedding!
The wedding reception for Isabel and David was at Curzon Hall and it is absolutely stunning at night. It’s the sort of place one would imagine a fairytale wedding would take place, and it was just that! And there was just so much food that by the time the main course arrived I could hardly get through it.. which is saying a lot for me :( I keep forgetting (on purpose, I think) to bring my camera with me so here’s are some iPhone pics from the lovely church wedding in the late afternoon:

Dropped by ‘cousin’ Ben’s birthday at the Watershed after the wedding and all three birthday peeps were already pretty wasted by the time I got there. Parties here are ‘same same but different’ to most of the ones we do in KL – for one there aren’t any full bottles of liquor anywhere except behind the bar!
This coming week will be a bit easier on me. The only plans I have are vegging on the beach with Jo, hopefully the weather permits on the weekend.. I really need to refresh my tan! Oh, and more shopping! :)
Will be headed back to KL pretty soon but before I go I have one more birthday to celebrate and plan. It’s sort of a surprise for MJ who isn’t expecting a big one but everyone wants to make a big deal out of it because it’s his 30th.. I can’t agree more. So I guess the surprise element would be upsizing his party! I already got MJ’s birthday present, which isn’t a surprise – gold tickets to Pearl Jam’s one and only Sydney show. HOW EXCITED AM I!? This is the really awesome thing about Sydney, all these massive acts drop in all the time. Green Day, Liza Minnelli, Andre Rieu, Lady Gaga, Nickelback, Beyonce.. just in the next few months. Tried getting tickets to Liza’s show at the Opera House earlier but they were sold out. I know they just announced another show, but I should go easy on the bank account..
Currently listening to David Gray’s Slow Motion, from his album Life in Slow Motion. Probably my favourite song in the universe and I am stoked he is coming to Sydney a few days after I get back from KL.. how lucky am I! In about 22 minutes the presale tickets go online. Not that I’m counting/constantly refreshing the page..
