ramblings

I was reading Huai Bin’s recent post on “old school blogging” and he described it perfectly as being ‘pure streams of consciousness’. That sort of got me thinking how much things have changed in the ten years since I started a blog.

When the blog phenomenon first hit Malaysia, many of us had personal blogs which were not ‘commercial’ in any way. Blogs were mostly used as intended – as web logs – a simple vessel of communicating to an online audience where before no one really had the means to. They were mainly online diaries by early adopters of the internet culture – much were ramblings about daily on-goings – like mine, there were webcams, and it was often a popularity contest amongst same-sex bloggers (pre-blog advertising, mind!). Things were very different back then, people had wishlists, and ‘fans’ would buy things off these lists in appreciation.

Through the years the phenomenon outlived the fascination and patience of many, and only a handful of people I know from the early days of blogging remain. However blogs have evolved into these things where people could make a living off, and thus many old and new blogs became topic-centric and (in my opinion anyway) has lost a lot of the original charm of the old school style of blogging. Even blogging platforms have evolved so much! There was a time I used to hand-code my updates via NotePad (yes I was a PC user yonks ago) and this was before there was any sort of commenting system in place.

I love that these changes have allowed us to focus more on (as HB aptly put it) generating verbal diarrhea. Which is probably exactly what this is!

Have a good weekend! I hope to see some sun at least, these past few days thick fluffy blankets of light grey have been hovering low over Sydney and it has been rather depressing/hard to not think of burrowing under the duvet while at work.

On the way in

I knew it had to happen sooner or later – one of the parentals bringing up the subject of a particularly dodgy pix on FB asking me to delete it. It was the one with Susu’s magnificent plastercine penis during Karen’s farewell. Good times!

I’ve just noticed that since Twittering, I’ve started to compact my blog posts to as minimal words as possible. Strange.

Anyway.

What’s been up?

I haven’t been getting up to much. Fashion Weekend was great but partially hampered by the fact that I had a raging fever waiting to attack me the minute I left Moore Park and was already starting to feel quite unwell. How unwell, you ask? Unwell enough not to spend any money at the year’s biggest retail event…

Also a bit gutted I had to cancel my first pole-dancing class. I was bed bound and shivering like a wet cat left in the cold. Wrapped in wool and fleece with the heater on, no less. Thankfully MJ was around to feed me otherwise I would probably not have eaten for a while. Not that I could eat much. I hibernated for a good 36 hours. Missed a day of work. Sadly, during the week Playstation was going to print. It only means more work less time but we made it today. And am duly relieved, so is my fever. Even my headache stuck around for ages. And my appetite seems to be making a reappearance, thankfully. I also have a stiff neck and a sore back. Not sure why, but I am pretty sure a trip to the spa will take care of that. In dire need of some pampering. Have not been to a spa in.. hmm.. I don’t even recall my last visit. Complimentary facials don’t count. I would probably say 2006, to be safe. Three years. Surely a girl can get away with justifying that, even in this horrid financial climate. Just to be clear, dear conscience, before said 2006 trip my last visit was probably in 2003.

I’d also like a full body massage. Too bad nothing here is as affordable as the ones in KL or Thailand. That is definitely something I miss about Asia. Half the time I’m not sure if the ‘cheap’ chinese ones here are a professional con or not.

While we’re at the subject of fantasy pampering, I’d also like to be on an island (preferably South pacific) while receiving said massage. The sound of the ocean does wonders for my sanity.

But reality, as always, beckons. Not that I’m complaining – I’ve just received my shipment of amazingly therapeutic skincare from Prada. I found a huge seller on eBay who was liquidating and selling it for dirt cheap. I love two things about it – the fact that it’s packaged for singular uses and that it smells and feels absolutely divine! And also that I paid about 20% of the rrp for it. Make that three things.

Because I’ve been sick I’ve also stopped smoking. It’s surprisingly easy when you are sick – let’s see if I can keep it to a minimum. I should quit. I don’t even like smoking anymore, but after so long I’m addicted to the nicotine.

Now coffee is going to be a lot harder.

Wait, why do I have to give up coffee??

Pardon my incoherence, I’m still on meds :/

I love eBay!

Going to sell some stuff soon – I have a terrible habit of being attached to things and I’m trying to break it. Who knows why I’m still so attached to those kid leather gloves I’ve never ever worn but I’ve had for 4 years?
