theyskens theory vs topshop

I’ve found the perfect alternative to these sold-out Theyskens’ Theory wedges (left) I’ve been lusting after for a while. I never got round to buying them because I couldn’t really justify any kind of cost-per-wear when I only wear heels about once every fortnight. But I snapped up the Topshop version (right) as soon as I saw them on sale today – at least without the hefty price tag, I won’t feel too bad about adding some screw-on cone spikes to the back heel!

Christian Louboutin 85mm Pigalle

Classic black stilettos are the shoe closet equivalent of the LBD, yet the perfect pair is so hard to find! I’ve been on the lookout for a replacement pair ever since the one pair I had fell apart a year ago..

My requirements are:
1. Under 4 inches so I can wear them all day
2. Leather, well made
3. Deep vamp for some toe cleavage
4. Pointed toe, but not overly sharp
5. Not too expensive so I can buy two, in case the first one falls apart :)

I haven’t really come across many that fit the bill. Maybe I’m too particular :) Of course I wouldn’t say no to these 85mm Pigalle Christian Louboutin shoes above.. they are perfect in every way, except I can’t buy two!

What do you look for in a classic black shoe? Do you prefer flats, heels or wedges?

Leap Year

ASOS jersey mini

Urban Soul shoes

ASOS long sleeve drape top

I’ve only just realised after all this time that I don’t own a black jersey mini so I got myself one from ASOS. Their shipping to Australia has become mega efficient – I’ve been getting packages in 4-5 days when some stores that don’t offer free shipping takes up to 15 days! Their house brand has definitely better quality fabric and finish than it used to a few years ago. Case in point, this jersey mini is 48% modal and really soft, slightly heavier than the regular T by Alexander Wang jersey and just the right length for my 5’8″ frame. I’m super pleased with it! ASOS is definitely raising the bar.. what do you guys think?

Friday Five: Sale shoes

The last Friday Five for 2011! Wow, this year has gone past so fast :)

What I love most about the end of the year are the sales.. I get really excited when I get an email about the stuff on my wishlist that are on sale. I think that shoes are not as ‘season’ dependent as clothes can be and I buy mine mostly when they are on sale and here are some of my favourite ones on sale.

Topshop Garter block Mary Janes $70
Sam Edelman Lyla pumps $75
Bertie Kai low heel ankle boot $158
Dolce & Gabbana velvet-embellished bow sandals $188
Alexander Wang Luisa open toe suede booties $275

With so many sales everywhere, it can be confusing. My sale shopping rules are simple:
1. Would you buy it for full price? If not, put it back down. Cheap items tend to lead to impulse buys that never leave the closet.
2. Shop in Summer for cheap Winter clothes and vice versa. Stock up on basics like a white shirt or a trench coat, you can never go wrong.
3. Have a budget and stick to it (the hardest part!) :)
