This J&ANs top is one of my first designer purchases, ever. It was around the late 90s where logo mania was in full effect, wearing something with a logo means you were instantly in a gang of sorts. Malaysia (where I grew up) got it’s first D&G standalone store when luxury mall Starhill Gallery opened in 1996 and it kicked off a designer craze, along with Armani, DKNY and Calvin Klein - among the more popular brands back then - where previously it was all about street brands like Vision Street Wear and Stussy.. not really ashamed to say I had those too!
Inspired to wear this out again as 90s trends have resurfaced on the runway (thanks Alexander Wang!). I guess that trend had to come around again sooner or later. Remarkably this tee is still mostly intact (I had two others which has long since made a status decline into the “sleepwear” category). It has long since lost it’s original long sleeves but I think I like it much better this way - tucked into a pair of faux leather bermudas which I love to bits. This tucked-in high-waist thing is not really me though, looking at the pictures now I think it would feel a bit more casual not tucked-in, but moving on..
What do you think of the logo trend?
