The MCA

We finally got round to visiting the newly refurbished Museum of Contemporary Art here in Sydney. At the moment it also houses part of the 18th Biennale of Sydney on top of their regular collection. Still not 100% sure I’m all for the cubic exterior that looks like a bunch of (beautifully) stacked blocks, but the simple industrial interior gets my vote. Something about the exposed concrete floors and stark black and white paint makes me feel quite at home. Minimalism at its best perhaps! Here are some of the installations on display; I’m so happy that these events/museums are free to the public!

The Mending Project (2009) Lee Ming Wei

Automated Colour Field (2011) Rebecca Baumann

Sandblasted mirror (2008-9) Aleks Danko

Where Are You (2012) Liu Zhuoquan

Anything Can Break (2011) Pinaree Sanpitak

The picture above is my new favourite picture! Having a ceiling’s worth of paper origami boxes and egg-shaped lights suspended above my head is quite surreal. This installation is part of the Biennale, and standing beneath one of the light orbs will trigger music in response to your presence. And the picture right before that is amazing for one reason: someone took to painting a roomful of bottles to resemble snakes from the inside. If that isn’t dedication I don’t know what is! Here are some outfit photos :)

These bangles were from a store in little India in Malaysia. I used to have a lot of these when I was younger, mainly because they are really cheap. I think these would have cost me $2 for the set. Indian bangles come in stacks and are mostly made from glass and would clink together when you dance. I’m not sure how easy they are to find, but designers like Amrita Singh have made them more accessible to international shoppers.. but if you have access to these shops they are a great source of ‘arm candy’ for seriously next to nothing!

Zara top & necklace, BE&D shoes, Indian bangles (similar), Balenciaga Courier. Photos by W and I.

When I first saw those snake bottles I thought they were just beautiful, but then to find out they were painted from the inside, I’m in awe, it must have taken such a long time… Definitely worth it though, they are really quite striking & I would absolutely buy one if I could get my hands on one! I seriously love that necklace & the sunglasses too!

Thanks Steph. I’m pretty sure one or two people have attempted to ‘steal’ these bottles.. doubt they would be for sale though it would make a really nice vase! The photo is only a portion of the bottles; it actually filled the room so yeah pretty impressive effort1

I’m dying to visit the London galleries and museums, V&A is probably top of my list! You should go ;) The leggings are from Zara as well. Not the best cut, wouldn’t recommend it.

What an amazing exhibition - I’m with the rest of the people who have commented - the bottles are stunning - I’ve not seen anything like that before and I for one would love to be in possession of one (or two). You (and your outfit) look great in your favourite photo - what a perfect backdrop (or ceiling drop).

    • http://www.absolutely-fuzzy.com Stephanie

Thanks for your lovely comment Sue! I’m really curious now if they’re for sale in any way. I would love to have one too!
