Things I love about Sydney #2:
The lamb tagine at Kasbah:
And the lovely Italian couple that makes my coffee and sandwich every morning.
I’ve just watched My Sister’s Keeper thinking it was another one of Cameron Diaz’ comedies.. and it turns out to be one of the saddest movies I’ve seen this year! So I spent the last hour bawling my eyes out instead :P Both Abigail Breslin and Sofia Vassilieva did an amazing job! Possibly too emotional to blog right now. Or not. And I should probably read plot summaries before I watch another movie.
It’s been a good month! Spent most of the month celebrating birthdays.. you know how there seem to be more September babies than any other month? Yeah, it’s true. Have had so many lunches and dinners (and cake) (and wine) (and beer) I’ve managed to put on some more weight.. kind of totally defeats the purpose trying to consciously watch what I eat. I seem to do fine when I don’t pay attention then I decide to pay attention, bam, extra weight.. Go figure! M says it’s probably from quitting smoking.. that may be it.. on the bright side, been spending some quality time at the gym.. I’ve never admitted this before but since I was 22, smoking has been a crutch.. I just don’t get to do enough cardio before I collapse in a wheezing pile on the floor so I’m glad that it’s no longer a problem. For some strange reason when I was 22, smoking and training 6 days a week I was fine.. I used to go for cigarette breaks with my PT right before we hit the bikes.. must be the age.. or the crisp NZ air?
Oh, I’ve been smoke free for a month :) Yup, finally decided to give up those nasty things.. not as hard as I thought. I know I’ve toyed with quitting a few times when I slapped some patches on for when my parents visit (they know I smoke, I just don’t smoke in front of them) but this time I actually made a decision to.. and it helps that the boy has quit as well. Now we’re just figuring what to do during smoke breaks.. standing in smoking areas taking deep breaths of nothing seem kind of weird to me. Hanging around back alleys and braving the heat for a drag is also kinda pointless now. On Facebook my friends suggested I smoke pot, drink lots and play Starcraft 2 - I’m not so sure that’s a better lifestyle compared to smoking.. :P
I’ve been smoking for over ten years. Don’t do it. Smoking is bad, kids. Think of all the shoes you can buy with the money you don’t spend on cigarettes!
Anyway, say hello to Jo celebrating his last year in his twenties, with me and Adam:
If anyone asks, I’m still 21. I wonder how long I can pull this off for.. surely no one believes me anymore.. but there’s a sucker born every day.. just kidding :)
And say hello to my other half also celebrating a birthday. Here we’re at our favourite Italian in the city ringing up another year with a few close friends.. evidently one of them can’t take a good picture! :)
He is such an amazing person! If you’re a September baby too, hope you’ve had a lovely one! Good times! x
Felt like a drink one night so I rounded up the troops for a glass of vino after work at De Vine. As the night went on we got a little hungry and decided to order some food. For some reason our impromptu dinner an impromptu theme.. great minds think alike!
We really enjoyed the meal, and looking at these pictures make me want to go back again. On the other hand, there are still so many uncharted restaurants in Sydney.. tough decisions for a food lover huh!
Duck liver pâté - brilliantly creamy, not too overpowering, generous portions. Yum!
Slow cooked duck leg, confit leg ragout - tasty but a little dry.
Duck pappardelle - divine!
Dessert platter - great for sharing and for those who can’t decide what to have. We noticed a missing Valhorna chocolate cake (which was replaced by a semifreddo) but because we really wanted some, the waitress obligingly brought out a slice. Predictably, I went straight for the crème brûlée and the pannacotta - I may just order the platter all for myself next time!
