Au contraire

My style of dressing is fairly minimal, but not truly minimal. I tend not to dress in prints or lots of colours so much, though some people think this is less interesting way of dressing I think that it makes you think more about proportions and contrasts. In my work as a graphic designer I am often forced to work with limited colours so Iā€™d like to think how I dress is also a projection of how my head puts things together. Itā€™s definitely more interesting for me in the mornings - even trying to find the right white jersey tank to go with a specific pair of jeans can really cut into my coffee time!

But dressing in solid colours never needs to be boring. Iā€™m always on the lookout for that little extra detailing, like the geometric embroidery on this vest by Aussie label Natasha Gan, to add a focal point. Was that the first thing you noticed about this outfit? Paired with an easy jersey dress that reminds me of the T by Alexander Wang ones except this one is sleeveless and thus much better abused as a beach-coverup when Summer comes around. Flatforms are also now officially a thing for me. I canā€™t get enough - help!

Thanks akiko!! My backpack was from when I was 12 years old, haha, amazingly it still exists. Would love to see you in that dress! xx

I find that people who donā€™t wear patterns think more about how they put their outfits together because they need to make a statement in a different way to what a pattern can do for you. I have to admit that the embroidery detail does catch your eye but itā€™s kind of graphic which suits your style. And you make wearing a purple dress like this look edgy - lesser style mortals would make it look boring.

Spot on Sue, personal style is about how you interpret fashion to fit your lifestyle. Thanks for that lovely comment, I rather like the idea of style immortals?! Do I get a magic lightning bolt? (JUST KIDDING - I have more than my fair share of boring days…) x

What a beautiful color your dress is! Like you, Iā€™m all about minimalism but with little unexpected details that really elevates an entire look. You totally nailed that! :]

Oh thanks so much! Iā€™m a bit behind on the cobalt trend but I found this at a warehouse sale last week, probably last seasons? But such a nice colour I had to have it anyway. Judging from your latest post you agree too! xx

Loving the bag & sandals. This post reminded me a little of Aimee Song! I think itā€™s important to think about proportions too but itā€™s probably why I take so long to get dressed! Haha

A focus on details is always welcome-and your whole outfit is filled with small surprises, like the panels on your vesta and the lettering on your bag. Also, I havenā€™t seen flatforms done well on very many other people, but I think they look sophisticated in all-black.

Yup, the vest was totally the first thing that caught my eye. I love that little detail on the shoulders, itā€™s hard to see in the photos but it looks like thereā€™s an extra piece there, for a little extra shaping? So cool.

I know exactly what you mean, sometimes I even spend time thinking about if this shade of black goes with that shade of black… Haha! Dressing simply or in limited colours definitely makes you consider even the tiniest details that most others wouldnā€™t notice. I love the pattern on the side of the vest, itā€™s really eyecatching. I was looking for a similar pair of shoes all summer, but never found a pair, I used to hate flatforms but now see their appeal with the whole height + comfort thing!

    • http://www.absolutely-fuzzy.com/ steph / absolutely-fuzzy.com

Different shades of black is a legit concern! I obsess about this a lot. And flatforms are surprisingly comfy, I barely notice Iā€™m not wearing flat flats.. :)

Minimal all the way baby! Less is always more and honestly I am so bloody over clashing prints and arm parties, most of the time I donā€™t find it creative at all especially when most times it ainā€™t working for them neither. But anyway maybe Iā€™m just getting old and prefer simpler things. I love the details of the vest. See thatā€™s a perfect way of wearing prints subtly. Minimalistic with a pop of geometric goodness. Thatā€™s all it takes!

Beautiful look! Steph, Iā€™m also a big fan of the subtle minimal style and I agree with you that playing with proportions, tailored cuts and lenght can create a unique style. Caterina
