Blending In

I blogged a while back about shopping less. If anything blogging has taught me, it is that fast fashion is ultimately, fast. I found myself buying something new every week - cheap thrills, mostly. And with every closet cleanout I feel this increasing sense of overconsumption - something that I consciously minimise in most other aspects of my life but not so much in fashion. I could never quite explain it but one day it struck me: it’s that never-ending quest for perfection. Searching for the perfect white tee, the perfect black jeans, the perfect sweater… and in between I accumulate plenty of things that don’t quite make the cut. More and more I find myself reaching for the same few pieces, so it made sense to reevaluate the way I shop. I’ve decided I’m going to slow down on the fast fashion and only buy the pieces I really, really like. Like this skirt I posted on Instagram a few weeks ago. It took a long time to find something so crisp and well cut and is a style missing entirely from my closet so now there’s that ticked off for a good while.

I can see you never getting tired of that skirt, in fact. Keep up the high standards!

That is a beautiful skirt! :) I am often the same - searching for the perfect item, never finding it but buying a lot of “close enough”. it does get crazy after a while. I managed to clean out and downsize majorly when I was pregnant, but I still have a lot more to go. I’m working on slowing my spending too!

oh a pregnancy is a great excuse for a cleanout! if you ever get bored of your bags though… i’ll help you find a home of them haha :D

    Hi Stephanie,

The skirt is really beautiful. On the search for perfect items we really stumble on a lot “almost there” items. Your decision to only buy what you really want will slowly pay off when you look at your wardrobe in the future.

    Thanks for the post!

I know exactly what you mean. A while back I also started to re-evaluate my wardrobe choices and I am trying really hard to shop more sustainably and to buy good quality, classic pieces that I can get multiple use out of… It is not easy with so many tempting “fast fashion” options out there! I really like the skirt you found, it looks very nice and versatile I can imagine you finding multiple ways to use it.

Shopping sustainably is hard, given how many cheap options there are out there! In the long run I think it’s worth the effort to at least try. Thanks for stopping by :)

It’s funny you mention this! I’ve been feeling the same way lately - part of the reason I decided to do another 30×30 challenge. I’ve been unsubscribing from every newsletter - even my faves like net a porter and the Outnet - as I can’t resist going on for a little peek. I also had to delete all my eBay fave searches and will probably look to delete the app in the future - I’m still selling the odd thing though.

By the way, I love your skirt! This whole combo actually. Funny thing, again, I laybyed a skirt at Gorman in navy which is the same style as this. Can’t wait to pick it up for summer as it’s office appropriate and light and airy. Xx

Your 30×30 challenges are so inspiring Jamie-Lee. I am really looking forward to your recap! And yes it’s such a nice SS piece - a version in navy would be dreamy. That’s such a good idea unsubscribing too, maybe after Black Friday… :)

Can I just start with how beautiful the new layout is Steph?! Seriously swooning over it. Very noice. And your outfit, that skirt is love-ely. I find myself thinking the same thing these days. Fashion can be so fickle and fast and I’ve found myself falling sucker to trends and promotion. Especially the latter. I’ve allowed myself to be easily influenced with too much stuff, stuff that I’d never associate with or would walk past in a store. I’ve had to step away to centre myself from it all.

Oh thanks lovely! It bothered me that my old layout isn’t mobile friendly!

Yes it sure can be hard resisting so many good promos out there - especially with the holidays coming up! I’m taking Jamie-Lee’s advice above and unsubscribing myself from a bunch of newsletters!

I love your sweater and skirt Stephanie. I was buying anything and everything (clothes) on a whim and accumulated so much over the years. I ended up selling a lot of eBay and giving away clothes. I vowed never to do that again. HaHaHa Now I really look at a garment and think how many times I’ll wear it, will it work with other pieces in my wardrobe (capsule closet) and do I really love it. My closet looks A LOT better. Plus I’m now discovering what works for me…lots of NEUTRALS. So good for you!

I think there is a general trend among some bloggers to reduce and live a more minimalistic life. I for one am a fan of this kind of change as I think the negative side of blogging is that it promotes too much consumerism and fast fashion.
