Secret Recipe’s secret to success

Recovering from food poisoning. It isn’t much fun. Not sure exactly what the cause is, but two days ago something at Secret Recipe fcked up my stomach. They have all meals premade and frozen, so quite likely they thawed and heated something that has already gone bad. Have had bad experiences with Secret Recipe before. Dead flies in their “award winning” cheese cakes, and bad prawns (the head has turned black) in their “award winning” tom yam kung… now it’s the chicken in their tom yam spaghetti; the flavour is quite strong so most likely you won’t be able to smell it if it’s gone bad.. I usually pick it up a mile away. Anyway, right after lunch for 5 hours I felt nauseous and wouldn’t stop burping. Dry retched a few times. It is the worst feeling.

Anyway, the manager at the Mid Valley Secret Recipe outlet, he’s a complete arse. I was with mom when we pointed out the bad prawns, and he tried to convince us that prawns look like that. You know, with black heads that smell a little sour. Refused to change our meals (why the hell not?) and refused to refund our order, not even an apology. Even told my mom that she had a rude daughter when I said “I don’t see why you can’t take it back and refund our order without being a prick about it.” My mom told him she agreed with me.. good on you mom. Eventually he just took the offending bowl away. Didn’t return with anything and went back to his work. I was stumped. I think at this stage I was starting to enjoy giving him crap in front of the other customers, by asking things like ‘You serve me bad prawns, you take my bowl away and you want to charge me for it?’ in a loud voice. Eventually he gave us a staff discount on the bill. But you know, all it takes is a gracious apology and a meal replacement, or if not a polite explanation… I don’t think a little courtesy is too much to ask for.

As for the dead-fly-in-cheesecake incident, pretty self-explanatory. There was a freaking DEAD FLY in my cheesecake and looked like a raisin except a raisin in a lemon cheesecake does not make sense. And it had wings. Made me almost throw up on my food. They obviously didn’t win any awards for quality control.

Supposed to meet the girls at 2pm but Lynn is no where to be found. Wondering if I should go, since none of them are picking up their phones. As it is Thursday, I am assuming they’ve had a big night at Mambo last night and are probably still sleeping. Maybe I should go back to sleep also.
