Vivid Sydney weekend

I looooove taking pictures at night, especially when Vivid Sydney is on - everyone was out taking pictures last weekend despite the rain! This year I checked out Macquarie Visions with two of my visiting friends from KL.. here are some snaps:

This here are my friends D and his lovely girlfriend. I have been looking forward to catching up with them since D told me he was dropping in a month ago. I’ve known D for most of my life; we went to school together and he is one of my oldest friends.. the sort that no matter how long you haven’t seen one another you always pick up where you left of.. though I have to say we were more rivals in primary school :)

I took them out to dinner at Glass, one of Luke Mangan’s restaurants at the Hilton. D told me he wasn’t impressed with Rockpool in Melbourne during his last trip so I was cracking my head a bit. Rockpool was a little hard to top in my books, but thankfully it wasn’t too much of a stretch.. there are so many good local chefs here it isn’t funny. Sydney has an obsession with food! My first choice was Aria (I’m a huge fan of Matt Moran) but last minute Friday dinner bookings are close to impossible.

Turns out Glass was a brilliant choice. Dinner was, to say the least, spectacular. I can’t wait to go back there again; the food was gorgeous and the wait staff were seriously top notch! I love it when the stars align, nothing ruins a good dining experience more than a rude waiter. After dinner we walked up to Circular Quay and had dessert at Guylian.. they haven’t really seen Sydney before and weren’t staying for long so it was hard fitting all the usual tourist stuff that they wanted to do on top of the other stuff I wanted to show them. But we did alright - like good Malaysians it did involve a fair amount of food and shopping!

Have been pretty busy with work and fixing up the apartment this last week. I pulled a muscle in my back in the process so I asked around and found a reputable Chinese remedial therapist. Maybe it’s an Asian thing, but muscular aches and pains and whatnot usually means a trip to the Chinese doctors. I was a bit of an adventurous kid back then, I know the smell of these places well.. it usually involves a cornucopia of mystery herbs and bandages (and a scolding from mom) and I was never allowed to get these areas wet which meant showering was a particularly complicated event.

I had cupping done on Tuesday night and it felt soooo exquisitely good. I swear I walked out of there on air; except I looked like someone pelted me with golf balls from behind. Thankfully it’s Winter. The next day I went back for a 30 minute massage. I could have laid there on the massage table for HOURS. The doctor was really good. I am tempted to go back to see her again next week. My back feels fine now, and the whole thing cost under A$50. I haven’t had a massage in ages and when your back is sore it is absolute heaven. I guess I’m laying off the heavy lifting for a while.

Looking forward to the weekend: SATC2 with Z and the girls, a BBQ and some lazing about - weather in Sydney has been terrible lately so I’m using all my excuses and staying in under cover as much as I can!

Also, Hunter Valley trip soon! Can’t wait.
