Ever since I read Brian Atwood’s interview on the Net-a-Porter Mag (July) in which he answers the perennial question, “which (shoe) styles should every woman own?” with “A nude pump, black pointed court shoes, metallic sandals for day or evening, and a pair of ankle boots,” I’ve been thinking a lot about the nude pump, or rather, the lack of a pair of nude pumps in my closet.
I think he’s absolutely bang on about these essentials, having these basic 4 pairs will not only cover most closet gaps, but will travel really well too, especially if you’re headed to city locations. Plus, nude pumps have the advantage of being visually elongating, especially if you’re lucky to find a pair that matches your skin tone. It’s almost like being naked..
Anyway I know I haven’t done a Friday Five in a while, so here are some of my fave nude pumps that I shortlisted while shopping for a pair. I ended up buying the Sam Edelman ones because I loved the angular cut in the inset pic and it wasn’t too high so I can wear them more often! But I do love the rest of these, especially #2 because the cut is just beautiful. Have you got a favourite go to pair?
1. Stuart Weitzman ‘Naughty’ pumps
2. Rachel Roy Gardner pumps
3. Michael Kors Vail peep-toe pumps
4. Sam Edelman Orly slingback pumps (inset pic via Shopbop)
5. Christian Louboutin 120mm Rolando pumps

Great minds think alike! I’ve been dreaming of a pair of nude and black pumps for the longest time. I’m going to check out SW and the Loubies as they will most likely have size 34. Can’t believe how many people are on Instagram so I’ve just followed you. there Am slowly but surely finding everyone there. I’m cookiesncandies on Instagram.
BTW, you’re on today’s Pass It Forward series :)

Great choice! Nude pumps are definitely essential! I have many nude pairs but my favorite one must be the D&G peep toe ones I have.
From your list, I loved no. 5, 2 and 4.

I love nude shoes, they are practically the only other colour shoes I own other than black! I don’t actually have any ‘classic’ nude pumps like these though & now I’m craving the Rachel Roy ones, love the angular shape! I wish the Micheal Kors ones were closed toe, as I’ve been hunting for a classic nude wedge like those for ages too!
Can’t wait to see the Sam Edelman’s on you, that subtle asymmetric cut to the front is really beautiful! :)

Great blog post. I have been considering a pair of nudes and I think no.3 is a possibility. Am on my feet all the time at work so I think as much as I adore those Laboutins, I’ll have to resort for something a bit more stable :)

These pumps look great! I never even knew wedges fell under the category too. However, the naked pump is a good concept - almost like wear stockings that match your skin tone too.
I’d like to get in the habit of wearing pumps. They hurt my feet!

This is missing from my shoe collection Steph! I have nude coloured leather woven sandals and also a pair of peep toe heels (which are the most uncomfortable shoe I own) but not a closed toed pump. I’d pick the Rachel Roy from this spread!
How random, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect pair since May… then I missed the French Connection sales! Thye has a gorgeous point pump with double ankle straps!!! Gah! Gutted or what?! Anyhoos, love these pics, I would so get myself a Louboutin - they’re totally classic and go with everything! For some reason I always have Angelina and Kate Middleton in mind when I think of nude pumps!

I don’t own a nude pair but instead a blush pair and a taupe pair… so I suppose combined that’s almost like nude? Definitely a great staple though, and love the ones that you picked out x

Very good recommendation for 5 shoes! I’m also lacking a pair of nude shoes in my wardrobe - I just haven’t found the perfect pair yet, but I’m aware of my “shoe gap”. Doesn’t stop me buying other less classic, more fun shoes though, hehe!

Steph, somehow I missed Brian Atwood’s interview! He would be so disappointed with my shoe department as I don’t have any of the models he listed…well, actually I’ve been thinking about buying a nude pair of pumps for a while because they go with everything and I find them very sophisticated…thank you for the inspiration and for sharing your favourites!
