A Russian in a bar once asked me if I could speak his language.
I jokingly told him I knew two words: Vodka, pahzaulsta! [roughly translates to vodka, please]
He grinned, and told me that I would survive in Russia just fine.
It happened again last night; a very unexpected meeting with a Russian stranger I’ve met once before in Sydney.. at a bar! The world is getting too small, yet there is so much yet uncovered.
This time, I added one more word before my departure: Paka! [casual goodbye]
I have picked up many more words since that first encounter.

I wish I were back in school, because then I’d be on a long holiday right now instead of staring idly at my screen and waiting for an upload. I’d probably be sleeping now, instead of relying on Starbucks to wake me up from my short sleep. I’d be dreaming of work instead of actually being at work.. which in retrospect, always a more pleasant experience (because in my dreams, I am superwoman).
Nik and I discussed superheroes last night after watching The Incredibles (hilarious). I’d be IncrediBimbo, in a pink patent catsuit to match my pink patent peeptoe pumps I’d bought on Saturday. Throwing shurikens cleverly made to look like credit cards is my top skill. And, of course, every IncrediBimbo needs the powers of teleportation to get to the next sample sale. Not a bad idea, except I’d have to dye my hair strawberry blonde and get a suit. I’ll save it for the next save-the-world-superhero convention.
Speaking of saving the world, the earthquake yesterday bore more damages than anyone could imagine. My prayers go out to those whose lives have been upturned by the tidal waves that rocked the better part of south Asia. My relatives who were in Penang on a trip were told to evacuate the hotel immediately after the waves rolled in and destroyed the hotel front. They arrived in KL last night at 2am. I was blissfully ignorant for the better part of the day, playing shopping guide to my three cousins who arrived in the morning from Brisbane. I’d only actually found out in the evening. What utter devastation :(
And, to think that we scheduled a trip to Phuket and the surrounding islands for a holiday and the full-moon party on the 25th (just two days ago!). It was only shelved because of civil unrest a month or two before. Patrick, if you’re reading this.. we could’ve been there. Aren’t coincidences shit scary?
Here’s wishing everyone a Happy Christmas! :)
I’m off to finally do my christmas shopping now.. I know it’s a tad last-minute but I haven’t had time before.. wheeeeeeee!! Happy Holly-day!
