My week in bullet point:
• Crazy week at work due to printers and distributors closing during Raya hols, thus causing deadlines to be brought forward by an almost ridiculous stretch and everyone working over overtime to meet them (not to mention an extra load from an annual we publish and being one man down)
• Upset at Kimi’s 2nd place in the driver’s championships but nonetheless consolated by the palpability that he will be champion next year
• Played WoW throughout most of last weekend and this and forgetting that I should be resting instead.
• Wanted to post twice from a tag from this semi-vegetarian chocoholic but couldn’t figure out for the life of me celebrity crush no. 6 & 7 (after Keanu Reeves, Clive Owen, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery and Ed Burns; was considering Chris Noth.. yes I do have a preference for the rogueish)
• Hung out with Jules shortly on his trip back from HK and had a night of mind-numbing IQ fun
• Had lunch twice with Tiff, which is alot considering I haven’t seen her since she got back
October 2005
It seemed apt that it was a wet and gloomy morning in the Klang Valley. As I drove out in the cold and rain beneath the colourless sky and headed to the church for David’s wake I realised when I looked around that all our lives have changed somehow, now that he is no longer with us. When he was, he has been that ray of sunshine we all bask in, his friendship and his sincerity has been such a positive element of our lives that all of us would be hard pressed to think of anything negative to say about David. It was hard not to cry for it is not everyday that God makes someone like him.
Mark called me on my way to work this morning to tell me that David passed away. By now I am sure most of his friends have heard the news also.
I never really know what to say about news like this. I’m sad that it had to be him. The last I spoke to him, ironically, was on a World of Warcraft server comparing character skill sets and it seemed as if he was on the road to recovery then. I remember him being excited about getting a new monitor. He mentioned something about coming on WoW more often and levelling up together when he gets his own account. And I remember telling him that he has some catching up to do. So when I heard about his relapse on Friday it came as a complete surprise.
I am, however, glad that his suffering has ended and that he is in God’s hands now. He has been a great friend through the 9 years that I’ve known him. Its funny how you only dig up those great old memories when something tragic happens.
If you would like to pay your respects to David there will be a funeral service on Thursday at 10am in the morning at the St Ignatius church just off LDP.
I wish I could justify to myself why I need a yet another pair of United Nudes apart from the fact that Rem Koolhaas is my idol and you never really need a reason to buy shoes. Also, the super cool factor of the Mobius shoes being constructed from a single piece of material based on the infinity loop of the Mobius strip atop tougher-than-Kevlar construction (does this mean its also bulletproof?) and the traffic-stopping “ohmigodwheredyagetthats” has made me a firm believer that it doesn’t take a Jimmy Choo to make cult status shoes. I so dig that they’re not a fashion brand but rather, a design one.
Now if only I can get my hands on a pair of their bronze Porn Toe snake skins…
