Just wanted to drop in a quick post to wish all my family, friends and readers a happy new year. 2011 is going to be a great year! Wherever you are, have a great night and be safe. See you on the other side :)
December 2010
I can’t remember why or how we came to pick Sepia as the restaurant to have our ‘Christmas’ dinner at - but I’m glad we did. The degustation menu was sophisticated and refined, the flavours are refreshingly clean on the palate and overall a wonderful showcase of top quality seasonal ingredients. We loved it!
We started with some amazing Sydney rock oysters that really didn’t need the vinaigrette it came with - it was that good - but the dressing added a lovely touch. The bread came with whipped butter and sea salt; the butter was light and fluffy but it wasn’t my thing - as a personal preference I much prefer the heavier creaminess of normal butter.
Amuse Bouche - scampi and soy jelly, with a hint Tasmanian wasabi - was stunning. I knew nothing about what was coming and this (correctly) indicated that it was going to be heavily Japanese-influenced.
This was the third-course and a close contender for highlight of the night - nori-rolled scallop, pickled ginger gel, puffed sushi rice, avocado cream - heaven! The nori brought out flavours in the perfectly-cooked scallops that I never knew existed. I don’t even know where to start - I will have to go back again for this!
One of my favourite people in Sydney - Dr G! Photo from Laych :)
It was Bongo Boy’s surprise birthday last night, which wasn’t so much of a surprise when his dad sent an SMS to his brother’s iPhone and he saw it - LOL! But he played along and the old Roof Bar crew caught up over a couple of drinks.. feels like I haven’t seen them in ages!
Am now finishing up with work for the year and frantically organising for the holidays. We’re having one of those theme dinners for NYE, this time Malaysian, so I need to make sure I have everything for the roti jala and kari ayam that I’ll be cooking - can’t wait!
One of the most stunning hotels I’ve seen, the stuff dreams are made of:
Really don’t mind a dip in that pool right now. It’s only 9am and sweltering - we’re meant to be in the sun today for a soccer tourney. Feeling much better today after a good sleep, a strong dose of Dimetapp and a coffee. Holidays cannot come soon enough!
