I recently saw an outfit post where the total cost of the outfit was $8,000 and while I love the idea that everyone has access to $4,000 Balmain leather pants, it’s a bit of a financial suicide for me. Thus, this week’s Friday Five are a bit more wallet-friendly. While top tier fashion is indeed covetable, there are plenty of options that can go really well with one or two more expensive ‘investment’ pieces.
Like this tie dye midi dress that reminds me so much of Helmut Lang’s signature jersey dresses (and I would be tempted to cut myself an asymmetrical hem!) And while we’re adding cuffs to everything, these gold ankle versions are a versatile way to get this look for less and the cropped wide leg pants are similar to the Acne ones I’m really digging. And of course, an alternative to the Gareth Pugh/Helmut Lang/Balmain-style leather pants that you don’t have to fork out a fortune for.
What are your favourite style buys that are under $100?
Topshop tie dye midi dress $60
Zara long asymmetric studio top $80
ASOS gold anklets $35
ASOS crop wide leg pants $62
Blank Denim vegan leather pants $62
Just a little heads up for my Aussie readers: J.Crew now ships down under, and shipping via DHL Express is free until the end of April! I think I’m in ballet flats heaven :)

Classic black stilettos are the shoe closet equivalent of the LBD, yet the perfect pair is so hard to find! I’ve been on the lookout for a replacement pair ever since the one pair I had fell apart a year ago..
My requirements are:
1. Under 4 inches so I can wear them all day
2. Leather, well made
3. Deep vamp for some toe cleavage
4. Pointed toe, but not overly sharp
5. Not too expensive so I can buy two, in case the first one falls apart :)
I haven’t really come across many that fit the bill. Maybe I’m too particular :) Of course I wouldn’t say no to these 85mm Pigalle Christian Louboutin shoes above.. they are perfect in every way, except I can’t buy two!
What do you look for in a classic black shoe? Do you prefer flats, heels or wedges?
If you’ve been following me on Instagram you’ll know that I’ve been obsessed with baking lately! W bought me Pierre Herme’s Macaron book for Christmas last year and has created a monster.. I’ve made about four batches so far - peppermint, lavender and salted-butter caramel (my favourite).
