Club Med!

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Just got back from Club Med. Not sure if I’m still hungover from all that drinking. But it was a really awesome trip guys.. thanks for having me and TK, thanks for the farewell speech thing. The organising committee did a fantastic job too.

Never been to a Club Med before so was pleasantly surprised at how fun it can be. The guys up at Cherating put alot of effort into the decor which changes daily according to the theme, and the show at night, and all the mad activities including an outdoor full-size trapeze thing (I flew off the swing LOL thank God for safety net), archery range etc.. but the best bit is that everyone participates. The buffet spreads were pretty good also, and the free flow of beer and house pouring at the bar led to a fair amount of mess :) Yay us!

Anyway now that I’m back home, I’ve started packing again. It’s amazing how much stuff I’ve acquired over the years. I’ll be thinking about this the next time I go shopping :P Anyway I have some stuff for sale. Figure I’d recycle it instead of chucking it out, it’s not really stuff that charities have a need for. Drop me a line if you’re interested :)

The Black Party

Steve Aoki in a nutshell: Awesome.

I think it’s his charisma and enthusiasm at playing for a crowd that dwarfs the importance of a rock solid playlist. Not that his playlist wasn’t great. I still think his set at ZoukOut last year was better though, however that might have been the sand, beer, company and lack of mainroom audience that made it so. I had a lot of fun at the Black Party, thanks to JW for the invite and the drinks :) And Blink for warming up the dancefloor. Dude, I’ve never heard the Spice Girls sound so good!

And here are some gratuitous snaps from the night:

Kevo. If you were straight I’d smack you <3

Wonderwoman Moons

Apes and Alcee

And Harps

And Terc (I love your sets!)

Steve giving his watchers a heart attack

Crowdsurfing.. the only real way to end a rockin night!

And talk about a great weekend.. Kimi finishing first is definitely the cherry!

See you in 2008!

Feels strange to be up at 9am and not having to head to work. Usually when I’m on leave it means I’m traveling, so having this bum-time at home is a tad disconcerting. Been meaning to post since my days have been quite full-on but I haven’t been taking many recent pics.

How to get what you want for Christmas:

Just kidding. Pix from Audrey’s birthday thing a week before Christmas which was incidentally the start of the mad party season!

The usual suspects:

At the office party me and LC helped organised. Was fun running around town buying santa hats and presents for the lucky draws! Wish I won the iPod. Overall was significantly less mad than last year (no strange gold heads) but however we had an inter-floor drinking comp and I still managed to bruise an ankle chasing after a quarter pounder (don’t ask).

Another fun party was Christmas Eve at Lola’s where me and Nik cooked dinner! On the Jap-inspired menu was:
Fusilli with ham and a miso-based sauce
Grilled tiger prawn on an egg whites with tobikko and mayonnaise
Choice of Norwegian salmon teriyaki or
Eye fillet with seaweed butter sauce with
Stir fried enoki and button mushrooms, truffle mash and sauteed asian greens
Home made lychee cheesecake (OK we didn’t make this tee hee)

Thankfully it wasn’t too disastrous putting us in the kitchen. It was the annual bubbles party and safe to say we had lots.

Now I need to start packing for Bangkok. Haven’t been there for more than 10 years so am very much looking forward to it!

Happy 2008 y’all ;)

Down South

I barely took any photos on this trip.

We went to Singapore for ZoukOut etc. It was a great weekend of doing everything and nothing, good music, great company and fabulous food.

Kid Millionaire is just too fucking awesome; he played a set so good that it made LCD Soundsystem feel like comedown. Didn’t hang around too much for AvB, already seen him a few times before.

Here’s a photo I stole from Noel of us at St James Powerhouse. I don’t seem to have any other photos except some on Karen’s Facebook.

Met a ton of new and old friends who are general nutters. Was great hanging out with you guys! And as always the shopping in Singapore is crazy during this time of year.

I learned the only way to beat the 200-strong cab queue at 4:30am is to walk up to the cabbie and offer $50 for the ride.

And that Carl’s Jr serves pork in Singapore but not in Malaysia. For obvious reasons.

I love Pepper Lunch.

And Jules, for being awesome as usual.

And Adam for the Vodka :)

During the trip we took a day off from the city and drove around Yarra Valley and traipsed around some wineries and had lunch at the gorgeous Tarra Warra estates. Props to Zee who refrained from drinking so we alcos could get our fill!

It’s only been week and I’ve already cracked open one of the two bottles of Peter Lehmann’s 2006 Botrytis Semillon that I brought back. I just adore this stuff! I wish I brought back more since they don’t sell this stuff here. I especially liked one particular one from the Oakridge Estate which we visited during our wine tour - the 864 Riesling. At $50 a bottle it is a tad pricey but worth every cent! No, they don’t export :(

I used to drink a lot of reds when I was younger before they started to give me terrible hangovers and the occasional headache then I started appreciating whites for more than the fact that they don’t make me feel terrible after too many but stickies are just awesome. I’d save the muscats for very casual occasions though.

Here are some pictures from that day.
