2010 Nuffnang Christmas Party

I can’t believe it’s been a year since the last Nuffnang Christmas Party, and it’s here again. Time seems to have flown by so quickly!

So this is my tenth year blogging (I feel so old, LOL, especially when people ask me “How long have you been blogging?”). In the first eight years I made it a point not to have any form of advertising on my blog, given that I’m not really writing for a particular audience, but if you’d told me sooner how fun blog networks like Nuffnang can be, I would have signed up way sooner!

I think our Bloggers are a lovely bunch of people and it was great to meet you/see you all again - Viv, Adeline, Mae, Lauren, Betty, Simon, Janice, Suze, Jayne, Karen, Sam, Joanna - I’m sure I’ve missed a few - and a big thanks to Leanne for helping organising such a great party!

Me and Mae have the same camera and was trying to take our own pictures - except I obviously lost the plot and looked at the wrong camera in both the pictures! LOL.

It does look like there are no male bloggers in Sydney from my pictures (oops) but there are a few as you can see.. it’s not a great picture, sorry. I think I was on my fifth beer by then.

There was also a theme (Blue, Hawaiian!) which I didn’t get to dress up for as I came straight from work. I was wearing a new pair of high-waisted jeans though, which were blue (barely), not since the early 90s have I had a pair of jeans that went up past my belly button! I’m actually kind of liking it. They are from Ksubi.

September issues!

I’ve just watched My Sister’s Keeper thinking it was another one of Cameron Diaz’ comedies.. and it turns out to be one of the saddest movies I’ve seen this year! So I spent the last hour bawling my eyes out instead :P Both Abigail Breslin and Sofia Vassilieva did an amazing job! Possibly too emotional to blog right now. Or not. And I should probably read plot summaries before I watch another movie.

It’s been a good month! Spent most of the month celebrating birthdays.. you know how there seem to be more September babies than any other month? Yeah, it’s true. Have had so many lunches and dinners (and cake) (and wine) (and beer) I’ve managed to put on some more weight.. kind of totally defeats the purpose trying to consciously watch what I eat. I seem to do fine when I don’t pay attention then I decide to pay attention, bam, extra weight.. Go figure! M says it’s probably from quitting smoking.. that may be it.. on the bright side, been spending some quality time at the gym.. I’ve never admitted this before but since I was 22, smoking has been a crutch.. I just don’t get to do enough cardio before I collapse in a wheezing pile on the floor so I’m glad that it’s no longer a problem. For some strange reason when I was 22, smoking and training 6 days a week I was fine.. I used to go for cigarette breaks with my PT right before we hit the bikes.. must be the age.. or the crisp NZ air?

Oh, I’ve been smoke free for a month :) Yup, finally decided to give up those nasty things.. not as hard as I thought. I know I’ve toyed with quitting a few times when I slapped some patches on for when my parents visit (they know I smoke, I just don’t smoke in front of them) but this time I actually made a decision to.. and it helps that the boy has quit as well. Now we’re just figuring what to do during smoke breaks.. standing in smoking areas taking deep breaths of nothing seem kind of weird to me. Hanging around back alleys and braving the heat for a drag is also kinda pointless now. On Facebook my friends suggested I smoke pot, drink lots and play Starcraft 2 - I’m not so sure that’s a better lifestyle compared to smoking.. :P

I’ve been smoking for over ten years. Don’t do it. Smoking is bad, kids. Think of all the shoes you can buy with the money you don’t spend on cigarettes!

Anyway, say hello to Jo celebrating his last year in his twenties, with me and Adam:

If anyone asks, I’m still 21. I wonder how long I can pull this off for.. surely no one believes me anymore.. but there’s a sucker born every day.. just kidding :)

And say hello to my other half also celebrating a birthday. Here we’re at our favourite Italian in the city ringing up another year with a few close friends.. evidently one of them can’t take a good picture! :)

He is such an amazing person! If you’re a September baby too, hope you’ve had a lovely one! Good times! x

Eid ul-Fitr in Sydney

Happy Malaysia Day peeps!

Am pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of this ‘new’ public holiday this year, since the actual day of September 16 (commemorating the establishment of the Malaysian federation) has been around since 1963. This brings the total national holidays up to like 15? And doesn’t even include state holidays.. sure is nice to be working in Malaysia :)

Last weekend was another public holiday in Malaysia for Eid ul-Fitr, more commonly known as Hari Raya. It is a Muslim holiday to celebrate the end of the fasting month, Ramadhan, and always involves a lot of food! Here in Sydney, Raya festivities are almost non-existent, so Siti decided to hold a picnic and have our own little Raya feast.

Can you believe she made everything? Me and R chipped in and made some ketupat and air bandung (a sweet rose syrup and milk drink) but everything else Siti made from scratch using her mom’s recipes.. it was delicious!

We hadNasi tomato with ayam masak merah, rendang ayam with ketupat palas as well as jelatah, udang goreng kunyit and cucur lemak manis.

(Tomato rice with Malaysian-style red chicken curry, chicken rendang with packed rice dumplings, as well as a sweet-sour cucumber salad, fried tumeric prawns and fried sweet flour balls)

Her mom would’ve been proud!

My best friend works for the Red Cross. Every time she mentions she is dropping by Sydney to see me, I wonder what terrible disaster has hit the Pacific Islands! This time though, thankfully, it wasn’t disaster that brought her over.. instead it was a series of fortunate events!
