Garret
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2003Where do I begin?
Standing around at the airport in Wellington on Sunday morning after a long Saturday night (another weekend, another party..) I wasn’t sure what to expect - sure, I’ve known Garret since my devious deviantart days (which now seems like ages ago) and we’ve spoken and e-mailed but it wasn’t till Sunday morning last week that I realized that I had no way of recognizing him apart from one cool photoshop-ed webcam image of Garret as Captain Explodo. Funny. He spotted me before I did.
Wellington turned out to be really cool. We did all kinds of touristy stuff and went to various museums and spent the nights trying to decide what to have for dinner, and on the last night, what to order off the cocktail menu at Jet. I trashed Garret at pool, 4-1. Fluke. Nget nget.
The days seem to fly after that, now I’m back at the labs deciding if I should start on my CGD or work on my degree. Blargh. We drove up to Auckland, having picked up Greg from Wanganui (the three of us finished the whole bottle of Absolut Vanilia in shots the night before), making a few stops for food and toilet breaks on the way. Auckland was fun, we ended up in Coast and I managed to get my ass smacked, picked up and shouted at from across the street all in one night. Scum.
We also went to the zoo and met up with Jacq, which was way cool. She made us breakfast!
Rotorua was pretty good too. We went romping around smelly sulphur lakes and plopping mud and Garret took me and Greg up on a little seaplane over the lake and we saw the whole region from the sky (which is really an amazing view) and even flew past Mount Tarawera (volcano) and made a stop at Hell’s Gate, Rotorua’s most active geothermal region.
Garret’s a shitload of fun and sarcasm rolled up in one. Wish he didn’t have to leave so early. His ability to forget things is truly one of a kind (and I thought I was forgetful!) Will be posting the pictures up soon-ish.
I’d do it all over again.
