This Sass & Bide jacket from 2004 has been sitting in my closet doing nothing, until last week when I decided to cut the sleeves off and give it a new life. It took less than five minutes, and now I have a new gilet! It’s so much more wearable now as the original sleeves were an awkward fluted shape. Thrown on top of this dress and a Balenciaga Weekender that I’ve been carrying for a solid two weeks.
I know, blogger faux pas and all that, but seriously some times I get into those bag loops that carry on (pun intended!) for a bit especially when I haven’t worn something for a while. The vastness of the Weekender’s interior lends well to Winter, and I won’t pretend there isn’t a sweater and scarf in my bag because I definitely pulled it out later on…

It’s been a while since I did an outfit post. I’m in the middle of organising something at home so I don’t have to resort to random corridors. This sweater is the same one from my last Friday Five post. It was sold out in my size so I sized up.. unfortunately it looks a bit massive on me (considering I’m about 5’8″ in flats). I still really like it though, and wonder if anyone has any tips for shrinking it.. in the dryer? Is that a crazy notion?

Much as I dislike the whole process of moving, it’s a good opportunity to edit my wardrobe. I found this hole-y tee that I bought from ASOS a while ago – it was inspired by the Balmain catwalks and instantly reminded me of ‘Derelique Chic’ from Zoolander (minus the garbage bags) when I first got it and I think I wore it so much I added a few extra holes. I think this is where my mum would say, “why would you pay money for something that has holes in it??” I’ll never be able to explain these ‘expertly ripped’ boyfriend jeans to her either, but I love them to death!
I did a balayage look on my hair last week at home, it cost me $8! What do you think?

This is a jacket from H&M that I picked up at a garage sale a few weeks ago. I’ve been planning to customise it and my order of studs have finally arrived and here is the result.. I love it! The studs have added some weight to the jacket which is nice, makes it feel more substantial somehow.. I added some detail to the back and the sleeves as well; to me it feels unfinished otherwise if that makes sense.. and it only cost me about $25! instructions after the jump :)

Studs and spikes used to be a mainstay of 80s punk, but these days so many niche trends have crossed over to the mainstream with designers like Balmain, Isabel Marant, Givenchy, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang and Chloe featuring plenty of hardware in their collections. If you look at the history of punk fashion (and music) it was an intentional rebellion against the mainstream with controversial and often offensive themes. These days, thankfully, punk fashion have branched off into many different subcultures and its influences have filtered down and been made more wearable for everyone else — here are some inspiration style pics I’ve come across recently!
I’m a huge fan of studs and spikes and I often find it cheaper (and more fun!) to DIY something I already own to get the look than to spend lots of money on a designer original.. not that there’s anything wrong with that :) But until I save enough money for that amazing red leather Balmain jacket, it’s DIY for me.. I’ve done a few and it’s really easy especially if you’re working with fabric. If you’re working with leather make sure you have a hole punch of some sort (depending on what you want to do).
This is something I did earlier this year and if you feel like studding something Studs & Spikes is the best web store I’ve found online - the quality of their stuff is amazing compared to the cheap ones you find on eBay. Rebecca Minkoff do some nice studded leather bags and bracelets, as do nOir Jewelry, that you see in some of these pictures and Wanderlust + Co has some nice studded leather pieces as well. I’ve also found some really nice studded accessories at vintage markets, the sex shops on Oxford St in Sydney and (of all places!) pet stores!
