Friday Five: The Modern Loafer

I’ve realised over Summer my style has become increasingly feminine. I wear skirts a whole lot more than I used to and my baggy sweaters and pants have taken a leave of absence. In protest I got dressed in my baggiest boyfriend jeans and sneakers yesterday - this was when I realised there is a gap in my shoe collection that I needed to fill. I haven’t got the right shoes to elevate my denim looks to a more polished outfit.

I mostly wear flats anyway, but most of my shoes are either sneakers, ballet flats, sandals, espadrilles or a hybrid of those things. When it comes to loafers I’m after a specific shape - I don’t want a rounded toe but nothing too pointy either. Finding the right heel height/toe shape has been a lot harder than I expected and it looks like I might be doing a bit more waiting - Everlane ones are ideal, despite the lighter sole, but currently wait-listed in black and the Lims aren’t available in the right colourways at the moment… do you have a favourite?

2. Everlane Modern Loafers
3. Phillip Lim ‘Quinn’
4. Vince ‘Yaeger’
5. MCQ ‘Grace’

It can be so hard to find the perfect shoe! Hopefully you come across what you are after soon, even better if you can score it on sale! :)

I feel like I’ve been doing the opposite of late and moving into more androgynous territory. I don’t have a great pair of loafers myself. I did find a pair months ago that I quite liked but they had sold out in my size and I haven’t found one that has struck a cord like that just yet. I’ll keep looking though.

Ah hope you find something else then - it’s surprisingly not as easy as I thought!

I reeeeealllly like those Stella Mccartney ones. I used to have the PL ones but they were a bit too pointy on me (it just looked silly - I’m an EU40) so I ended up parting with them. Do love a good loafer though!

Hmm yeah PL shoes are always narrow and longer than most shoes I find! I love the Stella ones too, but they’re not leather… for that price it’s hard to justify!

I’m also on the same search. Another popular option seems to be the half open loafer, or I guess to call it by it’s proper name, the “mule.” The everlane ones are also my favorite of the bunch, mostly cause they have the lowest heel. I hope you’re successful in your hunt for the perfect loafer :)

P.s I hope this comment goes through, I keep getting a 403 error when I click submit :/

Ah yeah I have a pair of the half loafers but they aren’t super comfy in the sense that I can’t wear them all day every day. What is it you don’t like about the higher heels?

And thanks for letting me know about the 403s - been having some issues with the internal comments system. I’ve switched back to disqus now - much easier!

I’m in the exact same boat as you! I’ve been after a pair of loafers for a while now, but I can never seem to find any that feel comfortable enough to wear all day long at work or uni! Fingers crossed we can both fill the missing spot in our shoe collection haha! x
