Packing

Packing is so tedious. I feel like just renting a container and shipping my entire room as is to NZ, dammit. My Desley suitcase, which promised to be the 'biggest in the world' is apparently not living up to its promise, because it refused to shut on me, despite me parking my big ass on top of it and repeatedly bouncing up and down. Ooh. The worst thing is, I haven't even packed my desktop into it.

Earlier, whilst idling my time away in bed with a nice new novella I just purchased from MPH last week on a whim, I decided to let my mind lapse back into 'snooze' mode and sleep somemore. It didn't work, because my body has a strange way of rejecting further sleep when I've already slept more than 8 hours. How disgusting. So I laid awake procrastinating and trying to waste somemore time so I wouldn't have time to get round to doing any packing for today but guilt got the better of me.

I'm on a highly edgy debate with myself on which shoes to bring. Before I explain any further, please bear in mind I am a shoe freak. I own close to 40 pairs at the moment, an assortment of stilettos, wedges, platforms, sandals, slippers.. not to mention the various pairs of boots, Doc Marts, trainers and err.. OK. So. Back to business.

How many pairs of shoes does a girl need? I thought I had that fathomed but I couldn't be more wrong. NZ = Cold weather, so naturally it would be logical to bring my trainers, loafers and boots. But hey, closer to November it gets hotter, and I might need my sandals, heels and slippers. Hell, I'd wear my heels in winter anyway. Right now there are about 10 pairs of assorted footwear sitting on my floor waiting to be selected and packed away, kinda like a mini shoe pageant happening in my room now.

Oh boy.

There's also a tank top pageant, a denim pageant and a perfume pageant happening.. but the shoe one is the most important. Shoes take up alot of space. Decisions decisions.

It's kinda depressing how whenever I go to Australia, I go up one clothes size. Here, I'm a US size 6, sometimes a 4 and on very rare occasions, a 2. When I go to Australia or the UK, seeing as how their sizing difers, I go up to a bloody size 10! Disgusting!! A trip on the airplane and out the other end, and you automatically go up 2 sizes.

Humor me. I know (in explicit detail) all about the international clothing and shoe size charts and its global equivalents.

I've packed myself a nice food box. Inside, there are about 50 packets of Maggi Mee, Indomie as well as tom yam cubes, lots of chilli and.. sanitary pads! Heh. Apparently they're pretty expensive over there but nevermind, they're really light to pack anyway. Hiaks. I've also got lots of belacan and sambal and.. gosh.. I'm feeling hungry already. Good thing I already sealed the box so I won't be tempted to open it and eat something!

Sharon says, bring lots of Twisties BBQ flavour. We love that stuff. It's not available there.

WHAT ELSE HAVE I MISSED??

I need another bag for cosmetics and skin care, and perfume, and photographs and posters and love letters.. (just kidding about the love letters, I never get any :\) and all my little WWF toys, and Don Cat! He's coming along, whee!! He's all excited about it.

OK, gotta go pack somemore before I head off to dinner. Fay Yin's back from Singapore so we're gonna yumchar tonight.

at the rate you are going, even renting a "container" could not solve the "packing" decisions.

lol.

My oh my! I dunno if you've been to NZ, but half the things you wanna bring in will be confiscated by the customs and quarantine. I was there for 3 years, trust me... you don't want to bring your stuff all the way there to see it go into the dumpster!Sometimes it depends on the customs officer on duty. See what sorta luck you have. There's are lotsa asian grocers in NZ (depends on which 'city'' you're in tho)where you can find authentic stuff. Oh... About your desktop...I brought mine here too. If you have a large and heavy CPU fan, I suggest you take it out before packing it. Mine came off even with thsoe friggin FRAGILE stickers pasted all over! Messed up my mobo big time. Curious...which part of NZ are you going to?

See sooks? This is why you should only pack 4 days before you leave; that way, you'll forget half the stuff you WANT to bring, heh. Good luck, girl :P

Oh, carry your harddisk with you in your hand carry. I always do that because if you ever saw the way they throw your PC around even with a million fragile stickers stuck around it, you would cry :P

A word of advice on your sneakers and with all your other shoes, make sure there's no soil stuck at the bottom of your soles. If there is, chances are the customs will tug u into the quarantine area and you'll have every piece of shoe and whatever debris you have on your sole checked under the microscope. Don't bring in fruits yah ;)

pots, eeeeeee. *kok*

frostee, hehehe.. i know :P i'll be going to NZ from australia, so not so bad, as long as i get into australia.. then going to NZ with all my stuff will be ok.. they're not as strict because australia-nz flights are practically considered local flights :P

im ditching the sambal belacan and all the non packaged foods.

im going to wanganui, small town north of welington.

jamie, that i know. hehe. im taking out my hddisk and my cdrw drive.

watchitman, instant noodles, instant dry noodles and MSG. hehehehe.

ronnie, i didn't forget. im scheming as to how to bring it in!!

Cool! Small town...way way small.. I thought where I studied was small. Wanganui is a pea as compared to Dunedin! Hahah! No offence! If you're coming from Oz... shouldn't be much of a prob. Problem now is getting the stuff into Oz! :) Hmmm...

heh, say hi to the beagle custom dog for me :P

hey fuzz, where will ya be transitting via Oz to NZ? if you flying into melbourne gimme a buzz and maybe we can meet up, tho it's right smack in the mid of my finals. But Hell, it's my dahlinkz we're talking about!! it's been like what..3 years since we last saw each other? and all that time we just a mere 500 metres away from each other :)

and yeah..u can ditch all those asian foodstuff. you'll be the customs biggest catch for the month i tell ya. if waganui is anything like melbourne, you can get almost everything under the sun from the asian grocers, albeit the authenticity may just be a tad off.

Posted by rayz @ 06/11/2023 06:19 PM GMT

Trust me Rayz... Wanganui is NOTHING like Melb. THink green, serene, beauty, sheep, emptiness, there we go!Yeah... drop by and say Hi! :)We're really bored.

man. you sound like you have adopted a whole platoon of grandmas here telling you what to pack and how. so, i'm not gonna add to the already overfilling list. *laugh*

not sure how long this exodus is for you but screw that head on your shoulder tight, girl. you might end up hating all your worldly possessions once you realise that you hafta be boss, sherpa and porter all to yourself.

have a good time but don't get too busy parking your arse on your delsey to spend time with those you love before the last thing they see of you is what you attempted to close your delsey with(!). *laugh* you're a riot girl.

cheers!=)

Jamie *woof*

RaYz, Frostee, I'll only be in Melb on my way back in November. Hehe. This time round I'm hitting Brisbane first!

frostee - wanganui is err..

QUIET.

:)

Posted by fuzzy @ 06/12/2023 12:05 PM GMT

Quiet? Seems like an understatement to me! Heheh! No offence tho. I like the peacefulness of NZ. It inspires me to write poetry and songs. (NOT!) I like the outdoors! You will feel free! :) Enjoy it!

November sounds good... provided the 2boredbog blokes and rayz survive till then...*fingers crossed*
