10/19/2003 Entry: "Alcohol is good for you.. really!"
You've run out of excuses NOT to touch that glass of booze because.. guess what?
1. Turns out that a gin martini can stop the wrinkles! Scientists at the University of Western Ontario in CA discovered that martini is mysteriously higher in antioxidants than either gin or vermouth on its own, especially when shaken rather than stirred (no wonder James Bond is such a healthy specimen!)
2. Antioxidants protect against high cholesterol levels, cancer and Alzheimer's - the hops used in Guiness contain xanthohumol - a potent antioxidant 6 times more effective than the stuff you get from fruit and vege.. so Guiness IS good for you after all!
3. Red wine is good for the heart, but you knew that already.
4. Beer has high levels of mineral silicon which is easily absorbed by the body.. mineral silicon is an important factor in bone health, so trash that milk and grab a can!
5. Eggnog's good for PMS, apparently! The high level of dairy products makes it an excellent source of magnesium, which women with PMS lack.. so down one and do everyone a favor!
6. My personal favourite - cranberry juice in Sea Breeze helps prevention of urinary tract infection.. and since vodka is 10 times less likely to give you a hangover compared to dark spirits, a cranberry and vodka should leave you feeling healthy and perky the next morning! Hah!
7. White wine contains tyrosol, which prevents inflammation, so if you have swollen joints/bits, have a glass or three. I doubt it works for *those* swollen bits though..
So next time I offer you a drink, don't deny me the pleasure.. hahaha!!
