12/15/2003 Entry: "It's Blonde, dah-ling!"

It's Blonde, dah-ling!

My early clubbing experiences never used to involve any alcohol. There was a time when Alex, Eugene, Janine and I would go to Heaven almost religiously every weekend to party. We'd hang out at the bar for a little while and on occasions, I'd order myself a Screwdriver before heading on to the dance floor where we'd dance the night away.. and we left when our feet started to hurt from dancing a couple of hours straight. I used to enjoy it so much.

After that phase, when I was in college and started partying with the girls, things got a little different. My girlfriends are not the dancing type, and we usually end up at the bar drinking free cocktails on ladies nights or socializing the night away with old and new friends. This was fun, too.

And after that, clubbing seemed to involve the status thing (getting doors opened, premium tables and the like) and alot more alcohol. We hardly ever step on the dance floor, and somehow there's always a bottle of liquor present. Staying sober is a challenge and fun is seeing everyone else plastered through your own alcoholic haze. We leave when we cannot take another sip lest we risk throwing everything back up, and most of the time even the designated drivers are tipsy.

Now, of course it can only change. We've moved out of dark stuffy clubs into nice well-lit bars and lounges. The alcohol factor is still there but dancing has been eliminated altogether (dance floors are never present) The girls dress up and the crowd is pretentious.. that's ok because we only pretend to be. Beautiful people wear Gucci and sip champagne, and everyone name drops. And besides Bar Savanh and Frangipani (I know there are other places but these two I kind of frequent), there's a brand new place to do all that. It's bright, its white and its called Bar Blonde. Seriously.

Opening of Bar Blonde - you saw it here first!

Nik kinda stumbled upon the opening on Saturday night (it's a couple of units away from Bar Savanh) and we went to check out the place and see what the fuss is all about. The interior is minimal and very impressive. We forked out RM 253 for a bottle of Moet & Chandon and blended into the crowd while making random blonde jokes but we didn't stay long before we headed back into Bar Savanh..

Me and Lynn

Eleana, me, Gwen and Lynn all dressed up!

Highlights of the night, catching up with Matt and his date, the illegal appearance of the second bottle of vodka, finding out Moet & Chandon was Bar Savanh's house pouring bubbly, walking into Bar Blonde with Nik leading the way and telling us four girls to 'pause for effect' (gosh you just had to be there, it was so funny!) and Lynn's dress which can literally stop traffic and some hearts too, I'll bet.

As the night progressed, things got a little kissy..

.. and kissier!

And look at this, what the hell?

At the end of the night, Eleana found someone's shoe. How random is that?

I was so plastered at the end of the night that I couldn't get out of the car to have supper, so Nik sent me home. It was the combination of about 3 glasses of champagne, lots of vodka and too much fun that did it. And if truth be told, I'd do it all over again (minus the vodka though.. vodka and bubbly kills!) in a flash.

The rest of the pictures should be up on Nik's site soon.

Yup, the clubbing trend changes just like the music in the club.

This weekend should be a different scene, from across the straits in the city state country of Singapore.
