Random tinsel

With all the Christmas decos up (commercially driven, of course) it's kinda hard to forget that Christmas is just round the corner. Malay santas (is that religiously possible??), chinese-style Christmas lanterns and holographic banners reminisce of Deepavali deco kinda puts a local spin on things. I don't know if anyone actually understands the significance of the occasion, or remembers what we're actually celebrating instead of Santa, and presents, and little stockings hanging on makeshift fireplaces.. but I guess that's what you get in a melting pot of a country in tropical weather (which is great, by the way, I love eating muruku in December).

I saw a kid about 5 screaming on top of his lungs outside Toys r Us because his mom wouldn't spend 300 bucks on one of those shiny spanking mechanical toys for him for Christmas and I felt like smacking him. He made me wonder what kind of concept of Christmas us commercial capitalist pigs are regurgitating to Gen Y, and subsequently what the festive season will be like in oh, 50 years. Probably bigger, better, more glittery and a much higher profit margin. And mechanical santas.

Someone in our office has taken the liberty to organise a Christmas dinner, at a 6-star hotel no less, with an onslaught of in-house awards ranging from The Patron Saint Of Penis Enlargements Award (for frequent use and abuse of the company mailing list) to Most Likely to Spend Too Much Time Keeping Their Area Clean As Opposed To Actually Working Award (aka cleanest desk) to Look What The Cat Dragged In Award (most unique dresser) and Secret Santa presents. Which is probably the closest I'd get to celebrating Christmas in a big, loud way. If my Secret Santa is reading this, please please buy me a brooch, you know one of those cool glittery metal ones that the stalls in Mid Valley are selling for about 20 bucks.

I'm also excited about this Christmas dinner that me and Nik will be going to, with a Roaring Twenties theme (complete with Charleston dance instructor and free flowing bubbly) and I've spent the better part of my weekend hunting eBay fo a vintage flapper dress.

And for all my dear friends who've asked me what I want for Christmas.. a nice big hug would suffice.

I think I'm gonna kick and scream like the 5-year-old boy until I get my PSP this Christmas. Haha!

Merry Christmas :)
