A total 180

I've turned down a trip this coming weekend to Jakarta to attend the JUICE Indonesia launch party. There's a quiet buzz of excitement in the office as the rest of the troop leave tomorrow. It all sounds rather glam - we're being flown in for a night of inebriated fun with copious amounts of bubbly and all that kinda thing. Occasions like these almost always guarantee several unexplainable incidences of total memory loss, accidental scandals and in extreme cases.. missing clothing! I almost feel like changing my mind but dammit, I'm quite tired.

So instead I settle (rather contentedly, I must add) for a weekend of catching up with the pile of books and journals I have amassed from my recent trips.. and about a million other things I said I'd do but I never had time for. It must be a sign of getting older, whatchamacallits, but that only happens to real people so maybe its not really age (I'll always be 21!) but rather a dip, like in one of those U graphs that my friend Tai so wonderfully illustrated once upon a time ago to cheer me up and real soon I'll be bouncing up again to reclaim my social life. Whatever.

Have a good weekend y'all.

de05

Was in Singapore for a couple of days last week for the designEDGE conference. I usually go to these things with an open mind but press pass or not, I felt quite disappointed with the whole thing. It's not that the lineup isn't fantastic, and it's not that the setup wasn't great and it wasn't that the people weren't enthusiastic. Some of the speakers took for granted their God-like cult status and assumed the audience are already familiar with their work thus it became like a worship session.. one didn't even bother preparing any visuals, or saying anything before inviting the floor to throw questions at him. I was gutted :P

Having said that however, there are some speakers who made the whole thing worth going to.. I loved Delta's stuff, and Rostarr's stop motion movie of his working process blew me away. Kostas Seremetis was also really interesting and UVA's light stuff is absolutely amazing. I didn't find the expo itself engaging in the least.

The highlight of it was probably the fact that I was in Singapore for five days and did not shop, drink or party. But I did meet up with Barrie and Julian for dinner.. probably my two favourite people to meet up with when not in KL.

Oh well, it's back to the grind, and dammit it's server maintenance day.. :P

Not entirely a revelation but...

... sometimes being in a different place makes you see things differently.

Runnin' runnin'

Hope everyone had a good break from the holidays.

A bunch of us from the office went down to Malacca for a colleague's wedding on Saturday. The whole thing was pretty fun but what took the cake was the afterparty. If you've never partied with the Catcha team, it's hard to describe the kind of madness that goes on. In one night we managed to break a nose, a wall at the club and into the pool at 3am. And we almost broke two taxis ferrying 13 of us (not including drivers) to and fro from club to hotel.

(Edit: I found a pic, before the madness when everyone was still kinda sober)

(L-R) Karen, Doreen, Lye Cwan, Devi, Steph & Kim with the bride and groom

Then it was back to KL on Sunday arvo for another wedding that night (no pic from this one). Alot of people are getting married because next Sunday we're going to another one in Seremban!

Today I feel a little displaced because I'm at work again after almost a week of sitting on my arse playing Warcraft. Boo hoo.
