All I want in 2006 is a Powerbook

Decided that for a new year, a fresh start is absolutely necessary for my laptop. In face I was quite convinced that everything will run better on a clean install of XP Pro and WoW. Unfortunately I've underestimated how shitty Windows can be when it comes to updating itself and now I have network connection problems (I will be connected for about 10 minutes then it dies for no apparent reason, then it won't renew the IP address when I hit 'repair'), shutdown problems (hangs on 'Windows is shutting down' screen, I've had to hard reset a few time.. ouch!) and startup is painfully slow. Also, the firewall is being a bitch when I was downloading the 131MB WoW patch for the fresh install, and is now having a nice showdown with Norton. I have also lost all my Outlook accounts and address book (I thankfully remembered backing up the emails itself) and a large chuck of my sense of humour. Also, someone please remind me how slow Norton can make your system run, even if it is decently specced to run WoW? :P

Mistletoe

Before I forget, Merry Christmas, everyone!

I'm still in the office trying to rush off some work before I head home to turkey and screaming kids. I love this time of the year!

RMCC annual dinner

The RMCC dinner at Le Meridien last night was awesome. Apart from the delicate dinner courses, they served a selection of champagne, wines, cocktails, liquer and cognacs from their extensive range. Dom Perignon on tap.. woo hoo! Wish I'd taken more pictures:

Thrown back in time.. the dinner had a swingin' 20s theme

Checking in

Am unbelievably busy. Deadlines have been pushed forward due to an overhaul/restructuring of our work processes and everyone's been on their toes trying to meet them. And while all this is happening, there is also the company dinner this Friday to prepare for. And I've got a shoot tomorrow so I won't be in the office at all.

Diana woke me up at 8am to tell me that she's back. Incidently on Tuesday morning while having coffee with Tiffany we decided to call Tse Wei and met up for a bit. Then Irene calls after Diana. And Lynn's back. So is Sharon. And suddenly I have a social life again.. haha.

Office is kinda buzzing also as we're launching OK! Malaysia on tomorrow night and there are shitloads to do. I'm not that involved, but Tiffany is, and the excitement kinda spreads. Especially when Tiffany is on a constant caffeine/sugar high. I'll be seeing quite a number of people that I haven't seen in ages tomorrow, so that'll be fun. I have two new friends from WoW (yes I hear you gasping) which are quite fun to hang out with online and offline and they'll be coming as well. They're friends of Q's so they are not entirely strangers. We've already had a few escapades!

You'll hear from me soon, and I promise to take some pictures.

I spy a black nappa leather Spy

I'm so toying with the idea of buying a Fendi Spy for myself for Christmas. The occasion being the excuse, of course, women never really need a reason to buy another bag. Well actually I have been wanting to get a big, versatile tote for ages. I don't actually have one. Honest :P Any idea what the prices are like in Singapore? I'll be down there this weekend.

Random tinsel

With all the Christmas decos up (commercially driven, of course) it's kinda hard to forget that Christmas is just round the corner. Malay santas (is that religiously possible??), chinese-style Christmas lanterns and holographic banners reminisce of Deepavali deco kinda puts a local spin on things. I don't know if anyone actually understands the significance of the occasion, or remembers what we're actually celebrating instead of Santa, and presents, and little stockings hanging on makeshift fireplaces.. but I guess that's what you get in a melting pot of a country in tropical weather (which is great, by the way, I love eating muruku in December).

I saw a kid about 5 screaming on top of his lungs outside Toys r Us because his mom wouldn't spend 300 bucks on one of those shiny spanking mechanical toys for him for Christmas and I felt like smacking him. He made me wonder what kind of concept of Christmas us commercial capitalist pigs are regurgitating to Gen Y, and subsequently what the festive season will be like in oh, 50 years. Probably bigger, better, more glittery and a much higher profit margin. And mechanical santas.

Someone in our office has taken the liberty to organise a Christmas dinner, at a 6-star hotel no less, with an onslaught of in-house awards ranging from The Patron Saint Of Penis Enlargements Award (for frequent use and abuse of the company mailing list) to Most Likely to Spend Too Much Time Keeping Their Area Clean As Opposed To Actually Working Award (aka cleanest desk) to Look What The Cat Dragged In Award (most unique dresser) and Secret Santa presents. Which is probably the closest I'd get to celebrating Christmas in a big, loud way. If my Secret Santa is reading this, please please buy me a brooch, you know one of those cool glittery metal ones that the stalls in Mid Valley are selling for about 20 bucks.

I'm also excited about this Christmas dinner that me and Nik will be going to, with a Roaring Twenties theme (complete with Charleston dance instructor and free flowing bubbly) and I've spent the better part of my weekend hunting eBay fo a vintage flapper dress.

And for all my dear friends who've asked me what I want for Christmas.. a nice big hug would suffice.
