In time
I think all of us are obsessed with ‘newness’ in one way or another. I know I am; I definitely get excited when packages arrive at my desk or when I’m wearing a new sweater for the first time. But I’m an even bigger fan of lived-in things - things that evolve… things that get even better with age. Natural materials tend to do this better than others.. this rib & hull tote from last year for example (how has it been a year already!?), has now developed a rich cognac patina from repeated wear… the leather is just so stunning in person.
Wood is another natural element that ages well. I love the idea of wood being a rather unconventional material for a bracelet watch strap - especially since this is the type of strap that I prefer. The guys at Jord have nailed it with the stunning simplicity of this watch. This piece made me do a double take when I first laid eyes on it. The black-brown wood is actually perfect and the design does not obscure the natural beauty of the wood grain in any way - all the hallmarks of good design. In fact the face itself is left textured while the strap has been given a slick satin finish. I can’t wait for it to ‘wear in’ and develop it’s own personality! What do you think of this piece? Would you wear a wooden watch?
