Pre-Fall 2012

I spent the weekend drooling over images from Pre-Fall 2012 on Style.com. These are the looks I will be drawing inspiration from in the coming months. It is admittedly a little strange being on this side of the hemisphere when it comes to fashion but at least compared to living in South East Asia I actually get to layer up in the colder months :) Here are some of my favourite looks:

Love the comic book references from 3.1 Phillip Lim featuring convertible knits and very wearable looks.

Amazing textures and layers from Alexander Wang; the sheer knits are really beautifully done.

Inspired by the bold combination of colours as well as the beautiful and feminine movement in these fabrics that I always look forward to from BCBG Max Azria.

Beautiful shapes from Chloe.

Amazing use of fabric from Derek Lam, really love the patterned denim.

I really like urban/utilitarian thing happening but I’m not sold by the boots that make your legs look like Astro Boy’s (or My Little Pony, depending on how you want to look at it, in which case I can see the appeal). That olive sweater is really, to die for and the solid chain belt is made for DIY.

One of my favourite designers, ever. Helmut Lang always seem to come up with a jacket I have to have, every single season.

Not quite my usual style but I really love the luxe details – leather collar, satin lapels, fur collar – and the combination of colours is divine.

Updated classics from Matthew Williamson. All these beautiful tailoring make me wish I had super skinny legs!

Major eye candy from Narciso Rodriguez; his signature minimalist looks updated with bold splashes of colour and a very graphic approach with angular cuts.. love!

Prabal Gurung was another highlight, I only took notice when he uploaded close-ups of the prismatic prints on Instagram and I was hooked. They are amazingly beautiful rendered on fabrics of different reflective states.

What attracted me to these looks were the use of colour. #1 is reminiscent of their Fall 2006 collection that I first knew them for; the jackets in #2 and #3 don’t really do that much for me but what’s underneath is strikingly beautiful in its simplicity.

In the essence these looks from Rochas are very simple – I really love the fabrics that Marco Zanini has chosen to use as they add a whole new dimension to what are essentially wardrobe basics.

Some amazing streamlined separates from T by Alexander Wang; he does such great ‘basics’ and I need that shirt dress in #3..

By far my favourite collection of the lot (I couldn’t settle for just three looks) Theyskens’ Theory’s pre-fall collection is extremely wearable straight off the catwalk, just like his previous collections. Such a departure from his previous work at Rochas. I love everything about it – especially (and contradictingly) the fact that it’s so ‘dark’ – from the leather jackets and shorts to crewneck knits and tees that look like you could sleep in it to the highly practical boots.. this is what I want to wear when the weather gets a little colder. I just wish I could afford all of it!

I hope some of these inspired you! Which are your favourite pre-fall collections?

Can’t really say that there’s something that I particularly liked in these collections. Most of them are not my style. Although I prefer to see the clothes on “real people” for a full opinion, not on models. Not to mention that most of them looked quite masculine.

I prefer to see them on real people too. But for me these images are more inspiration to combine colours and textures and shapes than to actually wear anything straight from the runway (except maybe Theyskens’ Theory or some 3.1 Phillip Lim looks).. they are quite masculine, you’re right, I didn’t notice that much but I think my style can be quite masculine, there were plenty of skirts and dresses but I was drawn more to the pants and androgynous cuts :)
