Shelter

We were stuck in the city when there were gale force winds (no seriously I came close to letting go of my bag at one stage and wearing a maxi dress in these conditions is like being a walking parachute.. urk) so we ended up hiding in one of the buildings around Darling Harbour for shelter. It had these really nice marble steps too. W took those photos toward the end when I was checking Instagram.. haha.

Been wanting to share this dress for a while. The asymmetric front is nicely unbalanced and the back detail is so simple / perfect. I really love the drape too. I’ve been quite obsessed with things that drape lately. Even got myself a few metres of lightweight jersey to mess around with at home for a DIY but more on that later. This bag is a new acquisition and I’ve been using it almost on a daily basis. Really wish it was real leather - it looks quite convincing - because I’m obsessed with the shape of it but it wasn’t too expensive so I can’t really complain. Paired with a pair of bright orange leather sandals from local Aussie brand Cali and Cale to break up the all-black thing going on here.. not that there’s anything wrong with that :)

The dress absolutely beautiful and looks perfect on you!! I love the shape with drape and it’s on sale..! (just checked the site:)) Although it’s getting colder here, I’m thinking to buy this thanks to you! Is it true to size? I don’t like tight fit generally (except skinny or tight skirt), so not sure what size I should buy. I normally don’t buy clothes online.. Love love your style :) xo akiko

Thanks akiko! I am wearing M and I’m normally a US size 6. It’s quite true to size. It’s meant to be a loose fit. Hope that helps!

  • akiko

Thank you for the detail, Stephanie! I just placed an order and can’t wait to try it on. Hope it’ll look good on me as much as it’s on you :) p.s. don’t wear bra with this dress? xo akiko

Oh hope you like it! I wore a strapless bra that had a front closure so the back looks like plain band. It was from Victoria’s Secret’s Incredible range but they don’t sell the strapless version anymore. It is really good for open backs because there isn’t a hook :)

Steph these photos are just beautiful, especially love the ones of you sitting on the stairs. The dress is gorgeous too, love the simplicity, but with that perfectly draped back it’s just the right amount of detail. Can’t wait to see what you make with the jersey too, I love making draped pieces! Also, feel you on the bag. I’ve seen so many recently that are such nice designs, but in pleather. It really puts me off buying them, even if they do look convincing because I don’t want to grow attached to a new favourite & know it won’t last for very long! Ha!

Not at all! Black on black is just the perfect combination! :P
I adore this dress, the loose, yet feminine line is perfect for everyday wear.
And those sandals are really beautiful, even though I’m not a fan of orange colour, this particular one is perfect!
