Nothing certain, nothing absolute
"Change in a moment, a heartbeat and a step away. Hours and minutes, seconds of wit and words lambasted against beliefs and experience; I have not the ego, so I claim to know naught" - anon
Packing veers between absolute hell and the do-able, and after some thought, I've decided to crash on the couch instead of heading to my new place tonight. I have loads to clean and pack here, and even more to clean and unpack there, so for the moment, 704 is the lesser of two evils. Plus, I get to do all the laundry I want :P
Have to go over and teach Janiya how to bake cookies in a bit. Am talking to Sharon, and there's always such a sense of relief and comfort that washes over me when speaking to one of the few, especially when feeling alien.
Self-discovery on so many levels: so minute the detail, so major the impact. I fear not speech, I expect not truth, I give not trust. If we can bypass this hurdle, we can do anything.
...so then why is it that I really don't seem to care?

I hate moving
How is it remotely possible that it's already the end of May?
Lease ends next week, so once again, it's time to pack up and move out, ugh. Punky's here for the weekend to help clear out the house.
Two weeks ago, my room was clean. Even neat.
Now it looks like this:
Oh, since I'm at it, a (bad) shot of the the prints I bought from John almost two years ago.
A bunny I saw hippity-hopping all over the place on my way to Traill today. Wild bunny, maybe?
Our very own American Idol. Harold impersonating George Huff, hee.
I have Incubus concert pictures somewhere. Am currently too lazy to dig 'em out. Maybe after I move.

Ah crap.
Ever had one of those moments where your mind connects to your mouth with no brain in between?
As I was telling the others earlier, it seems that, ah, in a moment lacking self-awareness, I, umm, told my prof she was going to hell.
Umm, yeah.
Well, it's not *that* bad. I mean, it is, but it's not.
It really isn't I tell you :P
Why, tiffy, why?!
(She said she lied to all of us mah....)
but still...!!!It ended up being funny (really lah!), and because I'm crazy I told her that hell's not such a bad place to be ("at least it's warm and stocked with vodka!"). Oh yeah, and that I'll be there for sure (especially after my faux pas, no?).
Look, the class laughed, the prof was smiling, and I was trying *very* hard to keep my eyes open a'ight?!
...I am so going to hell.... *shakes head*
To round things off, just as class ended, one of the mature students (who didn't hear what I said earlier) yelled across the room, "Hey tiff, what were you saying about hell?".
Moment of idiocy. Sweet!
I hope your week's been better than mine.

More objects!
Stuff I never leave home without. Well, nowadays anyway. That's...my discman, keys on a smilie keychain that I stole from Oakville Boy (what's his name again?) back in second year, watch and wallet. Yupyup. I can't live without my discman. But Audrey's taking it away from me soon, so I need to get myself something else, bah.
Oh, and I don't have write that stupid 2,500 word paper on love anymore ;D Had a discussion with my prof, and changed my topic from love to the representation of women in the medieval era, woohoo!
Have to start from scratch again, but it's well worth the pains.
In all truth, a paper on love wouldn't be all that hard to write, but knowing my crazy ways, I could very easily have gone overboard with unintentionally disparaging remarks and cynical perspective, and that's a risk I have no wish to take, because I actually *like* this class, for all my complaints and rants. I may not agree with a lot of things, but I can't say I'm not a sucker for happy endings, either.

For Yvonne :)
Hah, I just re-located my cousin Yvonne on the 'net, heh. I haven't seen or spoken to her in what seems like forever, and it's crazy because back in primary school (that's grade school for you North Americans!) she was the coolest cousin ever. She's two years older than me (at least, I *think* it's two years), and was a prefect at that, but she never snubbed her bratty cousin, heh. And trust me when I say I was bratty :P
Strange, but we pretty much lost touch after she headed off for high school. Even more so when we both headed for opposites corners of the world to pursue an education and life.
I'll never forget us bragging to anyone and everyone that we were related, ahaha! Seriously, why the hell did we do that?!
Oh yeah, and she used to pinch my cheeks. And her friends would flock around and pinch my cheeks too!! And when I ran, they gave chase *shakes head*
Evil :P
It's been 13 years, and even though we haven't spoken in ages, Yvonne, I *still* think you're one of my coolest cousins ;D

Shiny objects, etc.
In a bid to procrastinate writing a 2,500 word paper on the subject of love, I've resorted to creating pretty shiny objects instead.
Weather's been absolute crap all weekend, so no walks and no hopscotch, hmph. Anyway, I'm not allowed to draw graffiti on Althea's driveway because her mom's here. Which makes the whole exercise even more attractive, lol. but I shall refrain (for fear of getting an ass-whooping in the face of "an African woman's wrath", hehe). I'd draw on my own driveway, but it's a dirt road, not a pretty paved one like Althea's.
Kai's on his way home even as I write this, and Isabel *should* be in Jersey right about now. Which means she has all my stuff, woohoo! Must call and check in a while. Stuff, hee. Stuff!!
Stuuuuffffffff.
I am so damn frickin' bored. The things I have to do are the things I don't want to do, bleh. I think I'll go for a walk, regardless of weather. Actually, I'll finish this shiny thing for Deandra first, yah.

Lightbulb moment
Am so out of it that I didn't even realize one of the lightbulbs in my room blew.
Can't get Maroon 5's Must Get Out out of my head. Maybe it's because I'm listening to it on repeat :)
I'm lifting you up
I'm letting you down
I'm dancing 'til dawn
I'm fooling around
I'm not giving up
I'm making your love
This city's made us crazy and
we must get out...So many different things in so many different ways.
I wonder how you are, what you're doing. If you're happy, if you're okay. If things are working out the way you want them to be, if all is well.

Fun stuff
Had an awesome evening. The afternoon was shot to pieces, but I cleared up a little more of my hard drive, so all is not lost. Walked to Traill listening to a bunch of 70s/80s music that made me laugh, and class was fun. The lecture was hilarious, and there was a battle of the sexes for a couple of minutes in determining if forgetting a pledge or promise was a forgivable sin. Giving Ywain a modern twist, the ladies got all worked up when he forgot his wedding anniversary, whereas the guys were all for forgiveness and "women overreacting!", lol. Will got into a whole lot of trouble, and "gallivanting off with the guys to the casino and bars... what, there was no phone in the whole castle!?" was not good enough an excuse for breaking a promise, heh. After Val's presentation, we played a medieval romance version of Family Feud. I had to name a knightly quality, and apparently, "A knight has to be HOT!" qualified for an answer, ahaha! Our team won by three points (yes, we gloated), so we were given chocolates, but of course we shared.
I ran out right after the game as I promised to meet Roger and Asha for wings at Champs. I forgot to bring Roger's number with me, so I spent a good 10 minutes yelling his name at what was the wrong window, lol. Finally found an open door to the building, and after some navigation I was banging on his door for all it was worth, hee.
We met up with some of his friends and walked to Champs; the guys were there to watch some hockey, so Asha and I just chilled and caught up on news. I haven't seen Roger in weeks, so it was nice to kick him again ;D
Ben offered us a ride back, but I was so stuffed I opted to walk the food off instead. We left the guys and the Calgary Flames leading 2-0. Stopped by Asha's to pick up some stuff (am cooking lunch for Pei Tsuey tomorrow) before getting home around 11.30.
I still feel full, ugh.

Just. don't. want. to. do. anything.
Kendra has declared me "buggable" in class (must be all that eye-rolling and snorts of unlady-like laughter when she goes into her spiels of love and whatnot). Just my luck I'm in her line of sight, bah.

Re-arranging
My need for personal space and the constant arrangement and re-arrangment of furniture in said space remains, perhaps, one of my more extreme oddities.
Today, I re-arranged my furniture (surprise, surprise!), even though it will be only another two weeks before I have to move to that house on Aylmer for the rest of summer. And I really don't know why I do it anyway, heh.
Just realized how much I truly censor myself with family. My niece added me to her MSN list today, and I believe her first words upon viewing my display picture (which featured a passed-out Ghettoball hugging a litre of Absolut Mandrin) was, "WAH!!".
The picture seems a lot less funny with my niece viewing it :P
It's been a good 24 hours. I got to talk to a couple of people I haven't spoken to in ages, the weather's cooled considerably, our soon-to-be-new roommate seems really nice and I'm wearing my favourite pair of jammies. Decided to call Kai on a whim, and we yakked for almost an hour over the inane.

Cookie love
Never realized how often I uttered the words till Althea pointed it out to me--she swore they had to have a special meaning, since I said it so much, lol.
I don't know, I guess the word "cookie" is just fun to say out loud. Also, the idea of 'cookie' denotes a sense of warmth, a home-made baked-with-love kinda special (in my mind anyway).
Cookie. Cookiecookiecookie! lol.

Simple kind of lovely
Leaning on a tree trunk
Thinking all the same junk
Fallin' in and out of a dreamBack and forth I'm swaying
I'm contemplating staying
Laying and decaying when I know I must leaveWhere do I aim when I shoot the breeze
How do I call myself at times like theseI need a simple kind of lovely
The thought is just a noveltyYou can spend the whole time
Dangling from a grapevine
Standin' underneath you when they cut you freeWhat about when the sun leaves
and what about all those bad dreams
Who will walk you back into realityI wish this could be like this everyday
But I know that I could never live this way
Was just a simple kind of lovely
The memories will be okayI wish things could be like this everyday
But I know I could never live this way
Was just a simple kind of lovely
and the memories will be okayWas just a simple kind of lovely
and the memories will be okay...

So much pain
I am hurting in so many places, it's not even funny.
But waitaminute, it was!
So it was just like any Thursday: sleep in, read a little, clean, watch TV. The only difference was that I had a movie date with the ladies of 210 at 7, but it was such a gorgeous day out it failed to register in my brain that I was late, eek. When I finally realized my blunder, they were already on the 'phone hustling me, lol. Ran down to 210, and when I opened the door, the entire house was dark, save for a candle and a huge makeshift card with the words "Happy Birthday!" plastered over it. Walked up the stairs and was surprised with a huge chocolate cake from the girls ;D They sang happy birthday, and we got to eating. Deandra was struck with the brilliant idea of playing hopscotch, since it was such a beautiful day, so we all trooped out. I ran home for my camera, and I'm so glad I did; managed to catch numerous hilarious shots of everyone playing like 5 year olds, lol. Initially, I had on my running shoes, but decided to kick them off for better balance somewhere along the game. Bubba was the ref, and had to rule out fouls and stuff, hehe. By the end of the evening, Martin had kicked all our asses hollow (we've banned him from playing from now on), and our feet were hurting from the running leaps we took, lol. According to Althea, it's absolute shame that a guy beat four girls at hopscotch!
After that, we actually sat down and watched part of Finding Nemo before they started to play Risk. I had to come home and finish Sir Lancelot, but we're playing again tomorrow after class, so I'm excited ;D I have to pick up skipping rope for Bubba; he promised to show us some tricks.
It was one of the best birthdays ever ;D

Almost 4.30am and I'm still awake.
Have started packing today, even though it's probably another three weeks or so before I have to move. The room looks as if a tornado hit it.
Trying to put together a box of stuff to mail to Andreas; his Absolut bottles have been languishing at the bottom of my closet for what seems like an eon. About time I kept my word *smacks own forehead*
Speaking of mail, I received the most amazing gift ever from Sharon and Elissa :) It arrived in a conspicuous-looking package that stuck out a mile in the mailbox, and was sealed so tightly I had to take a pair of scissors to cut it open. Inside, carefully wrapped in plastic and tissue paper, was an assortment of gifts and knick knacks that left me grinning from ear to ear. The biggest item was a tee shirt from cows.ca; it sported a parody of an Absolut ad in front, only it was called Absomoot instead, lol. There was also a gorgeous origami hanging ornament in the shape of cranes in pride colours that's hanging in front of my door as we speak, not to mention the beautifully hand-drawn card by Elissa depicting two snow-women and snowcats grinning at me ;D Oh, and who can forget that mysterious bottle wrapped in numerous layers, stuffed among the others? My first thought was, "there is no way these two crazies sent me booze via mail!". Actually, it was a miniature Anne of Green Gables maple syrup, lol.
So yes, thank you ladies, for such a wonderful surprise :)
...and now I shall get back to cleaning.

One fine day
Ever get that feeling as you slowly come to consciousness and the realization that you're late, where your mind tells you to go back to bed, that it's pointless to get up and face the music?
Well, I told that voice to shut up today and ran for the bus stop with a container of yogurt in my backpack and 5 minutes to spare, HAH!
Doodled in mass media; couldn't help but think they should rename the course Conspiracy Theories 235 instead. Took off half an hour ahead so that I could go back and work on my medieval romance quiz before class. Bumped into Jorge while waiting for the bus, and we talked about school and priorities throughout what was usually a boring journey. He gave some pretty interesting insights, and it was such a pity that we didn't have more time to yak. Must get him and Gurkche out for lunch or something one day!
Finished my quiz with plenty of time to spare, so I started cleaning the kitchen when Shahnon called. That guy never fails to put a smile on my face, and he (lucky bugger that he is) is heading to Europe for a few weeks before graduation. Was so busy talking to him I was almost late for class, eek.
Was stuck at Traill College till almost 9, but it was still light out when I left. Weather's been gorgeous today, except for a short thunderstorm early evening. I was dreading walking to class in the rain, bleh. Thank goodness it stopped an hour before class.

Went over to Althea's for a game of Clue ;D Today it was Krusty the Clown with the Extend-O-Glove at Barney's Bowl-A-Rama. Man, all the murders happen at Barney's! Althea won, Janaya was confused, Deandra got everything but the location right, and Asha walked out half way 'cause Rishi called, so Martin took over.

Anyway, she came back in the evening and I made dinner with cookies for appetizer and dessert, hah! Love actually
The day started off crap. I had a lousy night's sleep, my paper wouldn't print and I missed the bus. Mass media was boring as hell, and the homework's slowly but surely starting to swamp me.
I was prepared to leave halfway through the medieval romance class so that I could get some sleep, but didn't in the end. We watched a short play performed in Middle English, and there was this little lady prancing about in tights and a robe, wielding (at different times) a bow and arrow, a plastic sword and a fake gold crown perched on her head, like an overgrown child playing dress up while speaking what seemed like a blend of Russian, German and French. In other words, it was gibberish to my unrefined ears. At the end of it, I couldn't decide if I wanted to laugh or cry. Nobody told me when I signed up for medieval romance that I had to learn a whole new bloody language!
In the aftermath of the dreadful film, I mumbled to myself, "I feel like I'm in a foreign country. Hey, I *am* in a foreign country!" My prof was not amused ;P
She did give me a lift home after class though, 'cause it was bitching cold.
I have a slight problem with this class. It's interesting as hell, but all this talk about courtly love and love in general makes me want to either laugh out loud or grimace, something which isn't all that appreciated by my oh-so-serious classmates who tear everything down to minute detail. It's barely been two weeks, but already I had to point out the fact that the lais weren't the creation of Marie de France, it's just stories that were handed down from generation to generation. And then we have these super-intellectuals trying to dissect the reason for one lay being so much longer and more detailed than another. Hello kawan, isn't there the slightest possibility that the story just is? That since it's a folktale, some are just more detailed than others? That there isn't always necessarily a Freudian reason to everything, and that yes, the stuff we're reading was probably 13th century porn but no one wants to admit it so we call it literature and read it in class?!
If you're wondering, yes, I *do* give voice to my "outrageous" opinions. It lightens things up after all ;P
Sigh.
I had to get that off my chest.
So here's what I learned today: A knight must love. Oh, but it's not enough that you love; you must love faithfully. But even that is not enough. You must also love above all else, and yet not love possessively. Your love must be a greater love, a courtly love, to justify an affair. As a knight, you must be noble, fulfill feudal duties and be skilled at arms. You must also be handsome (such an important trait!), must act for correct reasons, and you must be patient.
I'm telling you, whoever came up with that list isn't looking for a knight; he or she is looking for a figment of his or her imagination.
I feel better already ;D

Hmph.
I was ridiculously pissed to find that I had no paper whatsoever to print my assignment on, but thankfully, Bubba came to my rescue, yay Bubba! It was raining, but I hotfooted it to his place anyway, since I have to get this silly paper in by noon.
The landlord came by (second time in two days!) and this time, for no particular reason. I seem to remember somewhere in the lease which says he's suppose to notify us 24 hours in advance before showing up, that jerk. He woke me up and never really specified his reason for being around, huh. The good news is, I bugged him about the old fridge and TV, so hopefully he's going to do something about it. Our chances of getting a decent fridge seem pretty high, and he mentioned something about the stove, but I'm not raising my hopes too much just yet (for the stove anyway).
Spent a couple of hours downtown just walking around. Tea with Kris was postponed, as the poor girl is suffering from bronchitis. Walked into Chumleigh's (damn that place!) and found an old Take That CD I used to have which I was itching to buy. Also figured out the perfect present for my brother: the entire collection of original Mariah Carey albums ;P I don't think I bought anything for his birthday, so I guess this should suffice, even though it's going to set me back a pretty penny. Have to figure out which ones he has already though. I know I bought him two, at the very least.

Went for class as usual, and received my grade for the presentation last week. I was happy initially, but two seconds later I was wishing I did better. 8/10 isn't that bad for an hour and a half's work, right? Right.
Now seriously, this kiasu attitude pisses me off. And it's not something new either. I've carried this attitude all through life, and That Voice is always bloody egging me on, too.
Stupid Voice.
Ever tried hitting the perfect score, succeeding, but still wishing you did better? Hah, I have. Logically speaking, it really isn't possible, but nooooo, my brain refused to accept that.
Stupid brain.
Now see, I'm one of those people who recognize the inalienable truth when it's staring at them in the face, but refuse to accept it at the same time. I can give you a most coherent argument on why it's a truth (any kind of truth) and yet, that really doesn't stop me from being such an ass.
Ah well.
Was on the 'phone with my sister; she's safe and sound in New Jersey, and will be driving up with the cousins at the end of the month for a short visit. I might fly out if I get my work done over the weekend of the 22nd; Alice, Audrey and I will celebrate then :)
I get to cook dinner for Althea tomorrow, la la la.

Another week
I should hustle, as I have a class at one, but yakking with sooks is too good to pass up ;P
Let's see, need to get me a student card, stop by the cultstudies office, photocopy the lais for Sherry, yada yada. Hrm...
Note to self: Tea tomorrow with Kris at Dreams & Beans, 1pm.
Also, have to remember to get Dan to bring that writer over. My hard drive is on its last legs again.

Beautiful letdown
My writer's dead, I cleaned the house and have a semi-new layout for my site after 5 hours of slogging.
In a world full of bitter pain and bitter doubt
I was trying so hard to fit in, fit in,
until I found out
I don't belong here
I don't belong here
I will carry your cross and your song
but I don't belong...It was a beautiful let down
when you found me here
Yeah for once in a blue moon I see everything clear
I'll be your beautiful let down
thats what I've ever been
and even if it costs my soul
I'll sing for free...- Switchfoot's Beautiful Letdown
Suddenly discovering loads of good music ;D Was shopping with Punky two days ago, and I found Vertical Horizon's Everything You Want album and Switchfoot's Beautiful Letdown for a steal at Chumley's. They were brand new and dirt cheap, so I picked both up, yay!
Am very impressed with Maroon 5's Songs About Jane album. Didn't expect to like it as much as I do, heh. Too bad I left my pirated copy back in KL :/ Guess I'll just download stuff for the time being.
I broke the last of the three glasses I bought 2 year ago, hrm. Maybe it's not a bad thing.

...and then there was one.
Punky's just left :/
She'll be back for a weekend or two, but yeah, it's summer, and she has a job in Toronto, so she's pretty much moved out.
Punky-lalalala!
Well, no point just sitting here. I have some cleaning to do!
