2004 in review

I've almost forgotten how to write.

My last post on this site, before I move for good to the other.

I've yet to change its settings, and I'm not sure that I can, but what the hell, it's sitting there, and I should utilize it more instead of splitting my (very limited) blogging capabilities as it is.

So, 2004.

It's been decent, leaning towards good. I smile often, I laugh, I learnt the joys of shopping. I discovered a love for theatre; I renewed ties with some, severed others.

The world has been less lucky, but hopefully it will heal with time.

Am trying to focus on the blessings in life, like fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies shared with friends, and jokes and banter over drinks or tea. Walking in -20C weather, because I'm lucky enough to experience a real winter, breathe in cold, crisp air, watch snowflakes fall on mittens before they melt away. Having the good fortune to learn and study and stress over little things like a degree, because it means I'm in school, I have options, I'm thinking beyond survival.

Big events include the flood in Peterborough in July, US Elections ("If Kerry wins, I promise to attend every single class for a month!!"), and most recently, the disaster that struck Asia.

Personal highlights include my camera, extended time with family, catching Incubus live, catering a liquor event, getting (and later abandoning) my guitar. Learning to be happy, falling on my ass trying to rollerblade, playing hopscotch on a spring day, re-discovering awesome '90s music. Losing (and finding!) my passport, learning to read Middle English. Sleeping through the flood (hehe, I know!), crazy roadtrip to Winnipeg, dancing like no one's watching, sitting in a suitcase (even though I suffer from claustrophobia) just to get that awesome reaction.

"Why do I deserve [good things] though?"
"Because you let them [happen]"

Happy 2005, people. If you're going to party, party hard and party safe. I know I'll be sipping tea and chilling at home :)

Ack?

I get confused these days.

New domain's up and running, but it's on default settings, as I'm still struggling with papers overdue. I write here, and there, and I don't know where or what to stick to at the moment. In all honesty, I should move everything over, but again, those default settings bug me, and I refuse to work on the site 'til I get all my papers in.

Bah.

Artificial intelligence and future fiction interest me, but writing a 20-page essay is another thing altogether. I feel completely disorganized, even though I'm armed with an outline and a decent amount of quotes and references. Need to draw the strings together, and it's hard.

"Something's wrong/ with your mind/ it won't figure me anymore"

Damn right I won't. Bloody paper.

Di sent us an email with a picture of firemen and some dalmations. Apparently, women require some time to spot the dogs (hot firemen, y'see). I saw the dogs. Sarah had to point out the men.

Gaah.

I miss the roommates. Thank goodness for Renata. Punky sent an email, she's having fun in Ghana, yay. Sarah called to remind me to head to her place on Boxing Day if possible; she's already put up all the Christmas decorations. Api's probably busy making money, haven't spoken to her.

Another death in the family. Trying to be practical about it. We're mortal, see.

...

Told you I was trying to be practical.

In peace, tai ku che.

*sigh*

...

Stressed.

'course I miss home. It's home!

Before I forget, thanks Sharon and Kayla, for the invites to spend Christmas up East and North respectively :) Unfortunately, my bank account is screaming bloody murder as it is. Rain check?

Kayla, I have that picture of you and me squashed in a phone booth up on my pushpin board ;D

Di just called, dinner with her family this Saturday, if I'm so inclined.

Don't want to impose!

Am not Scrooge-like at all. Just feel that Christmas is an excuse to spend time with family (because some people need the excuse), and mine's not here, so it's different. Not bad, just... different. I'm perfectly fine being by myself, but others think I'm crazy, hehe.

I really am fine.

Really.

Blessed

I have a new domain, thanks to sooks.

I have a new (raspberry red!!) Nalgene water bottle, thanks to Roger.

I have places to go to for Christmas if I choose to, thanks to Sarah and Di.

I have Platinum & Gold Collection: The Verve Pipe, thanks to mum and dad who gave me $ for it ;D (not that they know I used it to buy a CD...)

Work left undone, but I'm grinning from ear to ear, feeling blessed, eating homemade cookies, drinking a mug of warm chamomile tea.

Experimental theatre in progress

Experiment #1

A large group of students, loaded down with coats, backpacks, stereo and a suitcase, entered the cafeteria noisily. It was busy, and they made their way right to the middle of the caf where there was a free table. They dumped their bags on the floor and just chilled while waiting for the professor to show up. The suitcase slowly began to unzip itself. An unsuspecting student, who sat at the next table, failed to notice this occurance, until he heard a chirpy voice say hello. He looked up, and saw a girl sitting in the unzipped suitcase. He did a double take, as he tried to process what he had just seen.

After five minutes of chatting loudly (and in the process, drawing attention to themselves), the group decided that class was probably cancelled because of bad weather. The girl hopped back into the suitcase, amidst gaping mouths and stares. Her classmate zipped her back in, and the entire group left the cafeteria. The girl stuck her hand out of the suitcase and waved goodbye as they departed.

...and *that* was my experimental theatre for today ;)

Killer week

Argh!!

One week, just one week..!

Among other things, Santa Parade was beyond awesome (50 Cents' In Da Club could be heard over your regular everyday Christmas songs), I am way behind in assignments and work, experimental theatre rehearsals went well (tomorrow's the day!), and I have new black mittens. For kids. But they fit me. So yay!

Veering crazily between stress and laughs.

I want that Care Bears shirt damnit. Want want want want want!!!

*sigh*

Tea. Lots and lots of tea. Cookie? Or pizza? Cookieeeee. Lots of cookies. And sugar. And death.

Ooh.

Sugar OD is bad *shakes head* But I still want sugar.

Frustration bordering on insanity skimming by obscurity.

Must call home.

Experimental theatre - sneak peek

I think I'm insane for even considering it, but we're pushing boundaries, and even if it isn't political doesn't mean it can't be done for the sake of doing.

We tested it out today, and I got Sarah to videotape it. Creepy, disturbing, extremely effective as a shocker, a statement and a joke.

I'm so excited! ;D

Sunday's the proper test run, and we perform on Tuesday for class, and (crossing fingers) Wednesday for personal experiment.

Physical discomfort means little in the face of true theatre ;)

Stay tuned for updates, photos and a possible video.

Singin' the Blues

... etched on a giant pink mug with Eeyore looking all doleful on the other side.

Mug of tea and a gingerbread man with red shiny sprinkles on top. Thanks Sarah ;)

Crunch time, stress time.

MSN's all crazy, so here's an apology for logging in and out all damn day. It wasn't intentional. And Wan Yee, stop laughing at me!

Stuff going on. Lots of stuff. Some distant, some closer. Bite my tongue, my lip, save grief, shut up, shut out.

Joyful rebellion!
